Cont: Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla II

Considering that Elon Musk has categorically zero experience in designing and building warships...
Many years ago a company I worked for employed a new delivery director who brought in her own computer expert. His background was in object oriented development but was made responsible for everything.

COBOL enhancements to ancient legacy systems accounted for 90% of the company's revenue. He was worse than useless.

Well of course the right answer there would have been to throw out all the COBOL and put together some Java running on commodity hardware. Deploy your prototype to production to shake out any bugs.

That won't stop him. I've been seeing suggestions for a couple of weeks that DOGE is going to gut NAVSEA and get it all contracted out. His Tesla and SpaceX are in line for contracts to revolutionise ship design and building, delivering better ships faster and saving billions.

Groundwork was laid in one of yesterdays EOs, DOGE are already on the way in.

Heaven help the sailors on board USS TWITTER.

Was it actually the tutorial boss? Because that guy is really easy, especially with a ranged character.
Another question that comes to mind? Has Musk started drinking his own Kool-aid? Surely if he hired someone to play games and level up for him, he must've known his own limitations. Has the projected the image of himself as a l33t gamerbro for the masses for so long that he started believing it himself?

Well obviously he hired someone to level up because it saves time and he's such a good player there's no point in messing around at lower levels.

it's an interesting question but we can only speculate. maybe he thinks everyone is too dumb to notice even though everyone always notices immediately and he is incapable of learning a lesson, maybe his dad didn't tell him he loved him enough, maybe it's a sexual fetish. i can't imagine why he would bother with it at this point, he clearly doesn't spend a lot of time playing video games and he doesn't need to pretend to do so as the cool nerd guy phony persona he made for himself rode off into the sunset a while ago.

but, he's doing these things.

Agreed. If we agree that Elon Musk is a classic narcissist, then he really does believe his own hype to a certain extent. And I agree that a narcissist would probably justify the use of surrogate game-grinders by telling himself that he probably could have gotten that far on his own, but he just doesn't have time.

maybe he thinks everyone is too dumb to notice...
This option fits in with his bully persona. He's a lousy business operator, but he's convinced himself that bullying his way into CEO positions and extreme wealth is the product of his superior business acumen. He's reputed to be a mediocre coder, but he covers his gaffes about pedestrian technology like databases by bullying. Once a critical mass of rubes accepts the proposition that he's a galaxy-brained genius, then bullying works for everything. It's not so much a matter of believing that everyone else is too dumb to notice as it is creating the illusion that everyone else is dumber.

I guess that may just be part of a narcissist complex, but that's my two cents.

A lot of folks were waiting on a less expensive RWD CyberTruck, originally floated for $39,990 at the reveal in 2019.

It’s now available. But a big disappointment. $70k, but stripped of a lot of features that people liked about the CyberTruck in the first place.

  • No HEPA filter
  • No air suspension (adaptive coil spring suspension)
  • No rear light bar
  • Standard bed with no tonneau cover included. Upgradeable to $750 soft tonneau. This soft cover increases range to 363 miles (from 350)
  • Textile seats (vs vegan leather on AWD trim)
  • Headlights without signature lamps
  • Standard bed lamps (vs premium lights on AWD)
  • No L-track in bed
  • No 2x 120V, 1x 24OV outlets in the bed
  • No 2x 120V outlets in the cabin
  • No heated rear seats & no ventilated front seats
  • Standard center console with no second row screen
  • 7 speaker audio (vs 15 speakers on AWD trim)
  • No active noise cancellation
  • No mechanical front locking diff (due to only single motor)
  • Lower 2,007 Ibs payload (vs 2,500 on AWD trim)
  • Lower 7,500 lbs towing capacity (vs 11k on AWD trim)
Anyway, lots of unhappy position holders.

Elon has a new target, the Kids Wish Network.

Elon Musk
@elonmusk

When the scams run for long enough with no one paying attention, they literally send zero dollars to the kids. Zero.

Many times, I have asked for pictures of the funding recipients. Sometimes, they can’t even come up with a single picture

Now this is mind blowing

Joe Rogan “Kids Wish Network:

- They raised $127 million
- They paid to solicitors $109 million
- They spent percentage on direct cash
- Aid to the actual kids is ONLY 2.5%

- Look at the Cancer Fund of America. LESS THAN 1% went to the actual thing”

I have no idea about the specifics with that one, but there definitely ARE a lot of scam charities.

One of the main reasons for having something like Give Well is to assess how much bang for your buck you get out of particular charities, or if all they are doing is giving money to a bloated staff doing "fundraising" (i.e travelling, putting things on expenses etc...).

<list snipped for brevity>
I'm torn between automatically thinking the worst of Musk but also wondering what was expected from a $70k truck pared down to $40k.
If they were hoping for a 2WD copy which people wouldn't notice was the cheaper one then that's unrealistic. Car makers need to avoid their cheaper models harming sales of their expensive ones.
