Trump's Second Term

That, sir, is an insult to all good, honest members of the genus Gavia (which we, on the correct side of the Atlantic, call divers)!
Great Northern Divers to be exact.

My favourite book as a kid was Arthur Ransome's 'Great Northern?'

A pair of Divers are at the heart of it, along with sailing the Hebrides of course.

Still a good read.

Nope, loons are divers in general.

Common loon = Great northern diver
Red-throated loon = Red-throated diver
Black-throated loon = Black-throated diver
Pacific loon = Pacific diver
Yellow-billed loon = White-billed diver

Coincidentally the former name for this genus is Urinator, I thought you'd like to know that.

Not in the Hebrides, there are Black Throated Drivers that nest and live there all year and Great Northern Divers that are rare visitors with very rare reports of nesting. It's the Great Northern that is sometimes known as the 'Loon'

In all the years I have been sailing the Hebrides I have never seen a Great Northern.
Which is ironic as a book about them was what drew me to the Hebrides in the first place and started my love of sailing.

Also, if he wants a war, openly dismantling veteran benefits and calling soldiers losers and suckers is pretty short-sighted, too. What's in it for the teenager who's considering signing up for the military? Any promise could be broken at any time. If you're injured they clearly won't be there for you. If you end up homeless you'll probably be chased from spot to spot by police, because the fascists have decided they don't want the homeless problem to be visible.
Because that's what happens to the worthless soldiers/people. YOU aren't worthless, are you? I mean, it's part of their whole schtick.

He'll have no problem finding young people who hate the worthless.

TRUMP: “Putin actually said to me, ‘If you don’t mind, friend, I hate to see you as my enemy.’ He said it very strongly. I had a very good relationship with Putin. I had a very good relationship with President Xi. A very good relationship with Kim Jong Un”

Also taking in trillions of dollars from tariffs.

I'd have no problem with Canada joining the US of its own volition and jumping the hoops needed there, but I also just wouldn't care too much. Canada's been a very, very friendly country for a long, long time.

What I could more easily envision is something along the lines of a “North American Free Trade and Travel Agreement” with Canada and Mexico, or a “North American Union”, along the lines of the European Union, with unrestricted travel and trade among the partners and a common currency, but with each country maintaining its sovereignty. Stipulated there would be huge hurdles, but I think it would be a net positive overall.

I think it’s only Trump’s ignorance that makes him see Canada as a single entity. In reality, it has 10 provinces and 3 territories. If we ever did come to a unification agreement with Canada, it would only make sense to bring in all 13 provinces and territories as state equivalents.

Then again, I’m of the “Imagine” generation, so that may help explain my naiveté in such matters.

“Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Livin' life in peace…”

They have deport all illegals. Unless they work gor a Trump hotel.
MAGA lady: AOC hired a Colombian ILLEGAL as a campaign aide, used her power of office to obtain him an illegal social security number, paid him $80,000 a year to live here ILLEGALLY at taxpayers' expense and TRUMP is the bad guy for EXPOSING IT?
600 replies to that Russian bot

Justice Roberts issued his statement, but his approach to Trump has been to appease him. Every case going to the SC must give Trump something. Evena tiny bit, just so Trump can declare a victory.

Judicial Coup!

Elon Musk
@elonmusk

This is a judicial coup.
We need 60 senators to impeach the judges and restore rule of the people.

Quote
Charlie Kirk
@charliekirk11
Now, a district court judge ordering the US military to continue enlisting mentally delusional transgender troops is justifying her ruling by quoting the musical Hamilton.
We either have a presidency or we have a rule by 677 gavel-wielding dictators. The Supreme Court must put these judges in place.

Elon Musk consistently conflates mob rule with the will of the people and the rule of law. The cognizable will of the people is expressed in the laws passed by the representatives those people elect to do so. Once established, those laws govern even if a mob desires otherwise. Or if a powerful person desires otherwise. Claims of an "overwhelming mandate" for Pres. Trump (not factually correct anyway) is not a presumption that whatever Trump (or Musk) may do allegedly in the name of the people is automatically lawful. What is happening is not a "judicial coup." It is the judiciary resisting Musk's attempted coup.

The Senate does not impeach federal officials, The House of Representatives do.
66 Senators will not vote to impeach any judges. Poor MAGA. :(
67, but the intent was clear: to convict upon impeachment requires two-thirds of the Senate (67 senators) to vote in favor. Not 60, as Musk ignorantly claims. And the impeachment is what the House does, not the Senate. Elon Musk continues to prove that U.S. government is just the latest in a long series of things he doesn't know enough about to be considered credible.

Reporter: On the FTC.. Can you expend the president's decision to fire the two democratic commissioners?

Leavitt: Because the time is right to let the people go and the president had the authority to do it

I had interpreted the 60 Senators remark to mean 60 more in addition to the 7 that are Musk's pocketbook, but I could be wrong, since he is stupid enough to think 60 total are required. Another stupid statement: Charlie Kirks remark about 'One presidency vs 677 dictators', not understanding the irony that a dictatorship usually involves one 'president'--one that Trump fits to a tee.

Man, you've been unlucky: every time we've been to the Western Isles, Orkney, Ardnamurchan, West Sutherland, Wester Ross and the rest, mostly in May or September, we seen Great Northerns, including a mob of up to 400 off Losgaintir and Taransay.

Short answer: the President doesn't have the authority to do it except for cause. Members of commissions governing independent agencies can generally be fired only for cause, or for the reasons set forth in the legislation that creates the agency. "Because it's the right time," is not cause. Nor is, "Because I say so and I'm the President."

Republicans have long hated the notion of independent agencies governed by commissions (rather than individuals) because their very existence is meant to blunt the effect of politics and maintain a semblance of regularity in the face of partisan whims. The staggered terms of the commissioners is meant to ensure that appointees roughly reflect partisan shifts over time, but may not always align to the current administration's policy goals. Chief Justice Roberts writing before he was on the Supreme Court argued that independent agencies violate the Appointments clause, and there may be some teeth to that. But it hasn't been directly challenged yet before the Supreme Court.
