Trump's Second Term

Perfect time for Canada to say that Marko should have never been allowed into the country and that he has to leave now.
He was always in the country:
From the Cuba thread:

In real life, they are being told the same lies by real-life politicians like the recently appointed Secretary of State and administrator of USAID:
Marco Rubio: Early life and education (Wikipedia)
Rubio's previous statements that his parents were forced to leave Cuba in 1959 (after Fidel Castro came to power) were falsehoods. His parents actually left Cuba in 1956, during the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. According to the Post, "[in] Florida, being connected to the post-revolution exile community gives a politician cachet that could never be achieved by someone identified with the pre-Castro exodus, a group sometimes viewed with suspicion."

U.S. stock market loses $5 trillion in value in three weeks

The S&P 500′s rapid 10% decline from a record high into correction territory has wiped out trillions of dollars in market value.

The market value of the S&P 500 at its Feb. 19 peak was $52.06 trillion, according to FactSet. Thursday’s decline put the index’s market value down to $46.78 trillion.

That makes for a total loss of about $5.28 trillion in about three weeks.

The decline has come in the shadow of President Donald Trump’s burgeoning trade war with several of the United States’ major trading partners, with headlines about tariffs at times seeming to drive market moves. There have also been signs of slowing economic growth, with weak consumer sentiment surveys and tepid outlooks from retailers like Walmart.

“Our interactions with clients indicate that the mood music is changing. While many see recession talk as premature, concerns about erratic policy from the new administration abound, with the ‘uncertainty tax’ hitting growth expectations,” Barclays strategist Emmanuel Cau said in a note to clients.

But at the moment the Dow is up +638.24 (+1.56%) today. Hope you're all enjoying the roller coaster ride!

If that's the case he certainly won't mind if we also add export taxes to our oil and potash.

And to clarify, Ontario wasn't about to cut off the power...they had added a 25% export tax so the price was going to rise a bit. The cutoff was a nuclear option that was not being seriously discussed.
Not this week anyway, wait until the USA army starts concentrating near the border...

One thing I hate about news nowadays is that every day The POSOTUS is the headline, together with a picture. And it's never anything good. I only ever catch mostly headlines now, as news always leads with BREAKING NEWS, they blurb the lede for a minute or so, then go to the panel to talk about it. I watch and read far less news now than I did a year ago.
Until the last election day, I was a news junkie. Since then, I rarely watch news on the TV because I can't stand watching Trump or Musk. I use the internet where I can control getting the latest news but not have to feel like throwing up watching those two morons.

There are no air traffic controllers currently performing that job who have not met all the requirements. Firing all the ATC controllers who are not straight white men will not improve air safety.
Come on, Jay. There were WOMEN ATC controllers! Everyone knows women are just too emotional to handle such a stressful job. And it's even worse one week every month when they'd crash a plane on purpose because they just go crazy!
In the disastrous cabinet meeting where Elon Musk tried to dress down the cabinet secretaries for not firing all the people Musk told them to, Pres. Trump stated that he wanted to recruit controllers from MIT because in his opinion they "have to be geniuses."

No, they don't. They have to be calm under pressure and to think quickly and accurately on their feet. MIT students are generally not that kind of person, and grow bored quickly with that kind of work.
Trump had a genius uncle who taught at MIT. People don't know that because Trump rarely mentions it. ;)

I was just searching for something on my backup drive and found I had saved this at some point a couple of years ago. I may even have posted it here.

The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre—the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

H. L. Mencken, Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920

You can't exactly say you weren't warned.

Trump on drug overdoses: "If you want to get it down close to 100 percent, is with the death penalty. But I think maybe America is not ready for that. China has the death penalty. Singapore has the death penalty ... wherever you have the death penalty, you don't have drugs ... it's always an option."

It's illegal to criticise the President

Trump: "These newspapers are really no different than a highly paid political operative. And it has to stop. It has to be illegal ... it just cannot be legal."

"I believe that CNN and MSNDC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat Party. And in my opinion, they are really corrupt and they are illegal. What they do is illegal."

Law and order

Trump: "In major cities like New York, Chicago, and Washington, mothers can't walk their children to the park without fear of being shot, or killed, or raped, or anything. Women can't ride the subway without worrying that a hoodlum will shove them onto the train tracks."

If someone wants to know how Trump is doing his Emergency Powers BS without any intervention by Congress:

Congress has the authority to move quickly to terminate any emergency declaration the day after it was declared - Dems tried to bring this to a vote.
But Republicans passed a bill declaring that, for purposes of the Emergency Declarations No Day Is Passing until January. Yes you read that right, Republicans have declared that time is not passing, so it can't be time yet to terminate the Emergency declaration.
"Each day for the remainder of the first session of the 119th Congress shall not constitute a calendar day for purposes of section 202 of the National Emergencies Act with respect to a joint resolution terminating a national emergency declared by the President on February 1, 2025."

So whatever happens with the tariffs, every single Republican is on record using a dirty trick to prevent a vote on them - in case any start saying that they didn't support them: yes they did. By every means at their disposal.

Musk and Trump to senate: go home. You are not needed anymore.View attachment 59485
That, unfortunately, includes my two senators, Hassan and Shaheen. Shaheen is retiring, Hassan is up for reelection in 2028. I will vote for ANY Democrat who runs against her in her primary, but it probably won't happen, BECAUSE THERE ISN'T GOING TO BE ANY ELECTION IN 2028! OR EVER AGAIN! They can both go to hell!
