Trump's Second Term

"FBI telling Citibank to freeze accounts of Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, and the State of NY Dept of Taxation, among a few dozen others."
The Bureau says they have "credible information" that Habitat for Humanity and the United Way have attempted to defraud the United States and to have committed wire fraud? The FBI?

TAPPER: Are you sure that Trump has the economy all under control?

SHEEHY: Shareholders want certainty, and as we all know, President Trump is changing that framework every second of every day ... just like getting on a diet, there's gonna be some pain in the process

First of all, the stock market has been on a sugar high a long time, we are gonna see a correction there.
Funny .. it might be true for Tesla for example. It skyrocketed after the election. And it returned to level before the election. Which is exactly what I would call a correction.
But if you look on Nasdaq or other indexes .. they grow steadily over 2024. Then it stops in November and there's waiting. February 20 and it crashes down. We're currently at September 2024. It's not correction of expectations. It's loosing any hope after 2 months of waiting.

Walz: "The idea that the secretary of education would not know what IDEA is -- individuals with disability in education act -- that's like your mechanic not knowing how to put air in your tire. And she's in charge of this nation's education progress. It is catastrophic."

"If trade is so bad with Canada. He was the guy who signed the deal. I think this is how he ran business. He stiffed contractors, he stiffed workers. He doesn't pay his bills. He declares bankruptcy. The one thing is his claim that he's the business president. He is the worst possible business executive that I have ever witnessed"

NOAA firing another 1000. Nobody knows weather like Trump.

Musk approval:
53% do not approve
42% do approve.
So about 40% are still MAGA or are very rich

Can I suggest getting your investments outside the US economy? As fast as you can possibly paddle? Because it won't be a "hit" this time. It will be a wipeout.

Against the advice of my new financial planner, I sold all my US equities about 2 weeks ago. I think the S&P 500 could sink by another 10-15% over the next 6 months. Ditto for the Nadaq.

Problem is, where do you invest it? I think its better to hold cash or put it in high interest savings at the moment than in any equities.

I hope every ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ lump of moldy ◊◊◊◊ who voted for this gets hit by a surprise tornado or hurricane, then there's no FEMA to help them rebuild, and on top of that they die from bird flu or some other plague!

Certificates of Deposit. Get 3-month CDs, then you can reevaluate the situation and reverse course if warranted.*

And ditch that financial adviser.

Didn't you answer your own question there? If the S&P is sinking over 6 months you should be buying into it before it rises again. We may not like the idiotgasm going on, but at the very least we may as well make a profit off it.

(Unless you need that money in the short term, in which case you shouldn't be gambling with it in the first place.)

You'll excuse me if I don't have much confidence in the economy in the near, or even far, future.

Put all your money into eggs!

Gold is a fairly safe hedge against hyperinflation or even the regular kind. Coins such as Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, Pandas or U.S. Double Eagles are popular choices. Stipulated the price seems very high, but historically they’ve continued to go even higher.

Still, best to consider them as protection, not an investment per sé.

No, if its sinking for the foreseeable future its better to hold something safe like cash or an equivalent . There will be a time to buy back in but not until the major damage is done.

Not a bad idea actually. People run to gold in times like this. For once, the MAGAs and Fox news might be right!

I think measles is now the best bet. Unfortunately it targets mostly innocent children, not adults.

Can't find the Trump's Nickname thread, of course. But lately I've been thinking of "Trusk" or preferably, "Mump".
But personally I'll stick with "The POSOTUS".

The President of the United States has become a car salesman:

In case you didn't know, Donald Trump pretty much held a car show at the White House on Tuesday.
. . .
It appears Donald had a sales pitch to aid with the promotion, and that pitch is going viral.
In his hand is a note with various prices for the different models and at the end it says "Teslas can be purchased for as little as $299/month or $35K. All cars have self driving, just needs to be turned on (fee)."

(Close in shots of the note he's holding if you follow the link)

Remind me of who works for whom again? Does Musk work for Trump or is it the other way around?

I struggle to imagine a person stupid enough to vote for this obvious huckster. And yet…
