Trump's Second Term

The Press Secretary on tariffs and the economy

Karoline Leavitt
@PressSec

As President Trump has said over and over again, when we purchase products made in the USA — the profits stay here, the revenue stays here, and the jobs stay here.

Despite the globalist mainstream media’s attempts to worry consumers – President Trump will not repeat the trend of past American Presidents who broke their promises and smiled while they stuck a knife in the backs of American workers and shipped their jobs overseas.

Our country has lost more than 5 million jobs and more than 90,000 factories due to devastating globalization over the last three decades alone.

These are harrowing statistics that represent countless towns and families who were completely destroyed.

This America Last globalist era is OVER under President Trump.

President Trump will no longer allow our country and our workers to be ripped off.

But don’t they? For example, if a 10% tariff is placed on Chinese imports, don’t those funds go into the U.S. treasury as revenue?

Absolutely NOT saying they’re a good idea, though they may be if targeted surgically. Nor that they don’t have offsetting negative effects, some major, since those funds are paid directly into the treasury by the importer, and most likely passed on to the consumer as an indirect tax on imported goods. But technically they are revenue, right?
Blanket tariffs are a very regressive tax: as a percentage of income they hit the poorest in society hardest. Canada's 200% tariffs on some US agricultural imports past a certain amount are a smart use of tariffs to prevent the US producers dumping excess production on their neighbours.

I don't think it's that simple, actually, I don't think it's that complicated. He and his cadre are the globalists, he wants hotels and golf courses around the World & American products everywhere, American weapons everywhere, hell he wants to make it America everywhere! Musk wants to own the world etc.. I think somewhere in his fuzzy little child brain he's got some utterly crazy fairytale meaning.
Globalist is a smear that the right want to denigrate jewish people but want to pretend not to be anti-semitic. Trampy meant jews when he said globalists.

Canada takes our crops? Canada exports wheat to Europe. And Europe is not going to ever buy GMO product, Trump or not. So our GMO corn and soy can probably go to Canadian cattle and chicken feed. Probably.

I remember there was a period when Canada was threatening to no longer import any US agricultural product or any US product that had come into contact with soil (possibly just products from the Northeast) if the US didn't take action to quarantine and deal with an outbreak of golden nematodes, in order to ensure that they didn't spread into Canada.
(When I worked for the NY Department of Environmental Conservation, I got to observe the chemical sterilization of an infected potato field.)

TBH, I was really hoping that would happen under the Biden administration. Something like, "whoa, look how much a rogue president could screw things up! We should reinforce the guardrails, put more checks in place, etc, just in case that ever happens again." Instead, as far as I can tell, all that happened was that Biden cancelled Trump's Schedule F EO, which of course Trump promptly reinstated once he was back in office.

You'd think it's the sort of thing that you could get Congress to support.

I'm pretty bitterly disappointed about that.
The three most significant individuals, in terms of the power they possessed to help prevent Trump II are: Mitch McConnell, Merrick Garland, and Joe Biden.

Dishonorable mention to Rupert Murdoch.

Because attending the White House Press briefing is their job. They have to report on what the White House says, even if it an obvious load of dingo's kidneys.

A better question to ask is why don't Democrats hold a daily Opposition briefing? Pick a bright, charismatic liberal like Psaki or Buttigieg to run it and run it every day. Let reporters ask questions and try to give them answers. Even if Dems don't have any power, the media would run with it.
Yes! I’ve been saying this to anyone who’ll listen for weeks!

Goddam, the Democratic leadership is dumber than a Roomba.

I just read an article in my local newspaper Politiken where a republican senator anonymously said that he feared for his life and the safety of his family if he said anything that went against Trump.
Sir/madam:

You wanted the job. The job comes with benefits, it comes with risks.

If you are in Congress today you are most likely wealthy if not remarkably so.

The solution is simple: hire a professional, round-the-clock security firm for you and your family. Then proceed to do your ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ job.

Your pal,
RK
