Split Thread Diversity Equity and Inclusion and merit in employment etc

Because a straight White male might benefit. Just can't have that. But a person's sex or race tells you nothing about what privileges, advantages, or disadvantages that person may have had in life. Focusing on class makes much more sense if the sincere goal is to reduce inequality. But White people bad, so no.
If you can't see the link between class and ethnicity, there is no hope for you.

This might work a little better if the political forces at hand weren't what they are.

Democratic Party - somewhat supportive of DEI, especially the forms that prioritize competence. Actively support and try to implement numerous programs across the board that try to help the "lower classes" get a fair shot, very much including straight white males.

Republican Party - actively opposed to DEI and have demonstrated quite the affinity to prioritizing loyalty over competence. Actively oppose and try to destroy just about any program that tries to help the "lower classes" get a fair shot, very much including straight white males.

Given that, your griping ends up sounding rather ridiculous.

Did you even read it? Have you no shame?
Yes. I read it: "The new rules are clear: end DEI or lose funding." I am 100% behind Trump's executive order to end DEI in federally funded programs, and I am 100% behind pulling federal funding from organizations that refuse to comply.

On the other hand, he writes, "Our leadership has gone above and beyond to reassure us that we will all continue to be welcome and supported, and that everyone we serve will remain welcome and supported as well." So, no minority people are being replaced by white people; removing DEI does not result in white supremacy; and nobody is being excluded, contrary to your own claims.

It's always a little surprising to me when people are this proudly and zealously dogmatic.

Given that the relevant executive orders have already been enjoined on the grounds that they violate due process, abridge free speech, and exceed presidential authority, continuing to be 100% behind them has some worrying entailments.

David Frum - "If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism, they will abandon democracy." The principle, of course, applies more broadly. Due process? Free Speech? Easily and repeatedly abandoned when push comes to shove. Doesn't stop them from hiding behind such principles when it suits them, though.

But he cried when he did it. Cried!

I can see I'm going to have to spell it out.

I cried the whole time I made those changes. It was the first time I've cried over this job. If I didn't do what I was told to do, someone else would've. If none of us did this, our funding would be cut to such an extent that nearly everyone I know would lose their jobs--jobs that not only feed and house their families, but jobs that make a real impact on the people our organization serves.

I know that other people are facing much more significant challenges than I am, and I believe I chose the lesser evil today. Still, I don't know how to sleep tonight. I can't imagine how many of us are going through the same feelings about these forced changes across our country. I'm posting this now because I feel so incredibly alone, and maybe one small silver lining will be letting someone else know that they're not the only one feeling this way. We, as Americans, are going to get through this somehow. No matter how it feels, or how isolated we become, none of us are ever truly alone.

I'm sorry to everyone impacted by these decisions, on every level. So very, very sorry.

Anyone who feels no sympathy for this person and their colleagues and families is a cold, heartless ◊◊◊◊.

Is DEI risking air traffic control safety?

Now I don't think this is the cause of the DC crash (the insanity of having blackhawks train over a commercial airport is more likely), but it be what it be.
A red herring. The FAA can't hire enough people. Even assuming you are are correct, which you aren't, they can't get enough people. Apparenlty a lot of it comes down to the parochial politics that chokes the American political system. All entrants to the ATC program have to go to a single campus in Oklahoma. A lot of people can't do that due to family obligations. Guess why it is there and a monopoly.

Fix the politics that gum up the system and there will probably be more recruits.

All ATC have to pass a rigorous training program. It doesn't matter how DEI you are, you have to pass.

He and his colleagues kept their jobs and so their families didn't suffer in the slightest. And the appeals to emotion aren't fooling anybody.
