Trump's Second Term

By when do you think they will cut it?
When did people think that Republicans would get rid of Roe v Wade? Lots of people were harmed by them getting rid of it and Democrats have used the issue to great advantage.

They've been targeting programs like Social Security and Medicaid for the entire existence of those programs. It's true that they haven't succeeded in getting rid of them, yet, but that makes the dangers no less real.

Re: Medicaid...

I suspect that they won't out-right eliminate it. But, they will do the same thing that Stubby McBonespurs did to Obamacare in his first term... change the rules, remove supporting infrastructure, etc.. to cause the number of people covered by it to be reduced.

That way they can claim "we kept it around!" even though more people will suffer.

This is how you can reduce the size of government responsibly

Study the problem, make a plan, don't rush things.
What a contrast to the mess we see today.
And that will never happen again. Bush Jr. made sure of that when he blew the surplus on tax cuts for the rich in 2001. There is no motivation for Democrats to work with Republicans to balance the budget if Republicans will just take any savings and blow it all on tax cuts for the rich.

The Prisoner's Dilemma is pretty easy for Democrats to figure out when Republicans have been hitting the "Defect" button for decades and are loudly announcing their intention to keep hitting the "Defect" button in the future.

Too many people depend on Medicaid.

While government employees trend to the left, there still are many Republicans in the US civil service, so 1000's of Republicans have been caught in the "efficiencing" already and many 1000's will lose their jobs in future "efficiencing" operations. Sparing pain to fellow Republicans is not a given.

A while ago there was a post about a Trump-supporting celebrity publicly imploring Trump and Musk to not fire people who voted for Trump (with the unspoken implication that firing people who didn't vote for him would be just fine).

I bet they don't cut Medicaid.
Looks like the going Republican plan is not to cut Medicaid, but to demand that the House Energy and Commerce Committee find $880 billion dollars worth of cuts. Since this committee handles Federal funding of health insurance including Medicaid, and everything else they handle isn't worth $880 billion, Medicaid cuts are inevitable. The GOP plan is just to point at the Committee and blame them when the mathematically inevitable happens.

I'd guess that most people would be in favor of "reducing the size of government"; but only Republicans nowadays seem to think that a good method of doing that is to attack our system of government. Those are two entirely different things; and thinking that Musk/Trump is the proper end all/be all to accomplish the first is to tear down the second.

One third of DOGE's employees have decided to become woke communist and defect, citing that President Elonia's actions could endanger millions of Americans. Elonia, the immature manchild he is, announced they would've been fired anyway.

Btw, it just occurred to me that Elonia reminds me a lot of Kylo Ren. Aspires to be a great and respected dictator like his hero, acts like a spoiled, surly 14 year old who never had to learn to control hos emotions.

Apparently a big bruise on the back of Trump's hand is sparking health concerns. The last time I saw something like this was the Queen a couple of years ago but don't worry she was fine.. dead within a few days. But to be honest I blamed that on meeting Liz Truss. Where is she at the moment? Oh...

Marjorie Taylor Greene sez (Mediaite via MSN):

You can protest all you want, but the American people disagree with you. The bureaucracy is not a business. Those are not real jobs producing federal revenue. By the way, they’re consuming taxpayer dollars. Those jobs are paid for by the American tax people who work real jobs, earn real income, pay federal taxes, and then pay these federal employees. Federal employees do not deserve their jobs. Federal employees do not deserve their paychecks.

I can surely think of one federal employee "consuming taxpayer dollars" to the tune of $174,000/year who doesn't deserve her paycheck.

Or blame the states for not contributing enough to Medicaid funding.
