REPORTER: Yes or no, do you believe the US should take control of Gaza?

MIKE JOHNSON: We await further details on what exactly that looks like. This is a bold, decisive move, and I think you have to do something to eradicate the threat to Israel.

REPORTER: Is that an America first policy to send American soldiers into Gaza, one of the most volatile regions in the world?

MIKE JOHNSON: The initial announcement yesterday I think was cheered by people all around the world
 
REPORTER: Is there an inconsistency with Republicans railing against 'unelected bureaucrats' in charge and yet ceding Article 1 powers to the executive branch under Elon Musk?

MIKE JOHNSON: No, look ... I think there's a gross overreaction in the media to what's happening

Sounds suspiciously like the rhetoric the Supreme Court used to grant monarchical powers to President Trump. Apparently such things as the Constitution, the rule of law, and sovereign territory must take a back seat to "bold, decisive" moves.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this isn't Elon. This is just ordinary theft. And note, this isn't payments from the government being halted, this is money being taken from accounts after money was already deposited into those accounts.

And yes, Gaza is, to Trump, just and solely a "Palm Beach real estate" opportunity. As mentioned above, he has not the slightest clue about the fundie rapture fantasies, nor would he care if he did know.

They created the retribution and remuneration program deliberately, because it plays right into Trump's mindset. So they are saying stuff he likes to hear, making him compliant. That can lead to making him order stuff that they want that he would not have thought of.

Ask yourself: Why did Elon infiltrate various departments and databases? Would you expect that to be bone-brain IT-clueless Trump's idea? Or could it be that someone whispered in his ear: "Let Elon handle this - it's IT stuff..."

I remember wondering, during Trump 1.0, what was the thing going to be that would finally cause him to lose any significant amount of his usual and expected support- notwithstanding his own "shoot someone on 5th Avenue" remark, I thought, no, there has to be something. Then came Jan 6, and Graham (among others) saying things like "count me out, enough is enough," and I thought that that point had, finally, been reached.

Since then, of course, in spite of Graham's wobbly "whatabout" criticism of Trump's Jan 6 pardons, they've largely returned to the fold. And, with Mike Johnson's defense of Trump's Gaza "plan," (as quoted above by Andy Ross, where you'll notice that Johnson didn't actually answer either question, much less with the "yes or no" which was all that was asked for or needed), I've come to the conclusion that there really is nothing that Trump can say or do that will finally lose him the support, and supporters, he has always counted on. And by the time that point does, finally, come, it won't matter much to anyone anymore, not even his supporters- they'll be as much in the ◊◊◊◊ as anyone else, the only difference being that they'll be gobbling it up and declaring it's the most delicious meal they've ever eaten for no better reason than that teh libz are suffering the stink too.

You sidestepped the point. The fear was expressed that schools would be free to teach such things as Creationism. You said that a Supreme Court decision prohibited that and that any such attempt would be swiftly stopped. But in fact funds now being collected ostensibly for public education are, in my state, being funneled towards private education with literally no standards or oversight. The fear is real and your proposed solution is factually impotent.
