Trump's Second Term

They'll make a totally fair test. Any white male will have to demonstrate literacy by reading a page from See Spot Run. Everybody else will have to read Thucydides Pelopneasian War in the original Greek and then translate it into English in writing inside ten minutes.

Can't get any less discriminatory than that.
Translate, Dick. Translate.

Total insanity. When did the United States decide we want Canada as a state? Did I miss the announcement that trump is now in charge of everything? Pure madness.
At about the same time that we decided that we want Greenland and Panama as states, apparently.

Kash Patel is Trump's pick for head of the FBI. The Economist magazine had a headline entitled "Kash Patel is a crackpot." It stated in part, "An appendix to Mr Patel’s book names 60 deep-state baddies. Democrats call it the Trump administration’s “enemies list”."
My question was sarcastic and rhetorical. I know exactly who he is. The joke, if you can call it that, is that neither Trump nor Musk nor any MAGA goons know who he is. Nor do they care.

Trump is not even in control of his own brain let alone the situation. Can Trudeau can go straight to the Speaker of the US Congress, and ask that Trump and his administration be restrained in some way?

I suspected as much, but I could not resist an opportunity to quote The Economist.

Jasmine Crockett Representative from Texas's 30th congressional district says

"The problem is that Americans thought it was okay to take a full fledged criminal and make him the President of the United States and then they want to act aghast when he does criminal things. Let me tell you, we have a thug in charge of the United States and if we don't wake up we may not have a United States.

Doing the rounds on socials.

Congress supports Trump, that's one of the many problems. The Republicans, even the so-called moderate or responsible ones cannot or will not do anything to stop Trump and his cronies.

Sample of comments from MAGAts on Twitter regarding Canada

"Do we even get anything from Canada? If we do, it's not much. I can do without whatever it is. For sure."

"I don't recall seeing "Made in Canada" on the bottom of things I buy."

"We don't need their Maple Syrup, what else have they got?"

"Trump knows they rely on the USA for everything Have fun with all that Canadian Bacon rotting at your shipping depots."

"◊◊◊◊ Trudeau in his mangina, Trump is gonna win"
I've read somewhere that about 20% of Canada GDP is export to the US, but only about 1% of US GDP is export to Canada.
If true, then the US surely got the upper hand.

With all these tariffs on imports and potential boycotts of exports, Trump must be happy, he's finally becoming as isolationist as Kim Jung Il.
Yes, and he's even a smart cookie. That makes Drumpf a whole of a smart cake.

That depends on whether the US can get the things it imports from Canada at the same price on short notice. If not then it will STILL need to import the things, but US consumers will pay more, as this will of course never cause profits to go down. Think of the shareholders.

Trump's tariff's are already winning. The dollar is surging while the Peso and CAD are hitting multi-year lows.

Post all of the world-renowned economists opinions you want but people who have money in the game know who will win. Money talks. BS walks.

Not really winning. A rising dollar will make imports cheaper and exports more expensive which will tend to increase rather than decrease the US' trade deficits.

On the face of it, the increase in the value of the dollar will help to offset the inflationary effects of the tariffs but with tariffs of 25%, an increase of 0.4% in the value of the dollar isn't significant.

If other countries do retaliate to the US' tariffs, the resulting trade war will hurt everyone, there will be no winners.

OTOH the shutting down of USAID and the corresponding loss in US soft power will definitely benefit China who have been actively been courting developing countries for a couple of decades now.
