Plane Crash In DC

OK. You've answered the first part of the question. Now, how about the second part: How does Trump blaming the crash on DEI make my position that DEI is "bad" look "so breathtakingly stupid"?
If you can't see it for yourself, then there's little hope.

Look. Trump says that DEI caused the crash. This is utterly stupid and not something anyone with any kind of intelligence could say. Do you agree with that?

It doesn't work that way. First, you answer my question; then, I answer yours.

if Trump says it's a legitimate idea, you should assume it's a baseless excuse to do whatever he wants.
Trump never believed in anything that wasn't an advantage for him.

On the CNN video you can see the impact and then sections of the plane falling into the water. Impact into the Potomac wasn't instant, it was a few seconds. In an event like that people who DO survive sometimes say each second seemed like a year. In previous crashes, investigators suspected some of the passengers may have remained conscious immediately after the collision and understood what was happening. This was when autopsies revealed no critical injuries and the cause of death was drowning.

Is my impression that the Potomac River where the debris landed is quite shallow, correct? The news seemed to be saying the rescuers were wading in waist deep waters. Not that it changes the degree of impact.

Presumably, the unidentified female co-pilot was the dwarf, which Trump knows is a common sense fact, as he was briefed of all the details before anyone else.

Many parts of the Potomac are very shallow. The running joke is that the U.S. capital city was built on a swamp. The wreckage of the airliner fuselage is in 3-4 feet of water. I understand the helicopter wreckage is in deeper water.

oh i didn’t see that. and the dei joke has also been made there so leaves me with little to add

In this case the airplane was registered in Mexico and the pilot in the ATC recording sounds like he's speaking with an accent. This should really fuel the MAGA handwringing.

We should really have a separate thread for the Philly crash because the discussions might take different routes. Here there are confirmed casualties on the ground, and the cause is likely to be an engineering-related failure instead of an operational failure.

...the dei joke has also been made...

It's worse than that. From Associated Press:
A medical transport jet carrying a child patient, her mother and four others slammed into a Philadelphia neighborhood and exploded in flames. The child had been treated in Philadelphia for a life-threatening condition and was being transported home to Mexico, according to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the plane’s operator. The flight’s final destination was Tijuana after a stop in Missouri. All six people aboard were from Mexico. Associated Press article link

In order to answer your question, I need to know your answer to mine.

Do you think that Trump's statement that DEI at least in part caused the crash is utterly stupid?

If yes, then that's why he makes your position look stupid. If no, then your position is just as stupid as his is.

In other words, when you said that Trump blaming the crash on DEI makes my position that DEI is "bad" look "breathtakingly stupid," you literally didn't know what you were talking about.

The final crew member of the Army UH-60 has been identified. It is Capt. Rebecca M. Lobach of the 12th Aviation Battalion in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Because of trump's crude remarks the Army honored the family's request to delay identifying Lobach. She had been on active duty since 2019, after graduating in the top 20% of her ROTC class at the University of North Carolina. She also served as a social aide at the White House during the Biden years. Last month she escorted Ralph Lauren through the White House when he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Army Lt. Samantha Brown, a close friend, remembers Lobach.
Brown said she was confident, despite the political rhetoric swirling around her friend's death, that Lobach would be remembered for one thing – that she heartily deserved her success. "Rebecca earned her place in that aircraft," she said. "She was outstanding, and she deserved to be there. Rebecca was a patriot." USA Today article link

Trump disparages vets because he is a draft dodger, not because he is embarrassed about it but because he doesn't understand public service, duty selflessness, and empathy. He referred to the buried dead as suckers and losers, and the maga weirdos who support him cheer for him because they share the same hatred as he does, never realizing that he considers them suckers and losers as well as they purchase the cheap ◊◊◊◊ he hawks.

If you want to step away from the political overtones (mostly), watch the daily NTSB briefings. Board member J. Todd Inman has been doing a great job of being tough when tough is the right thing, and compassionate when that's the right thing. Today's bit of important information: the airliner was at an altitude of 325 feet at the time of the collision. Also, the inspector in charge seems to believe the 200 foot ceiling was mandatory, so it will be interesting to see how that gets reconciled with what the charts seem to indicate.

I was under the impression that the Army was withholding the name of Captain Lobach at the request of her family, and given the way the whole deal has been turned political, I'm not surprised they didn't want her name out there.

Nor am I surprised they changed their minds, after the mouthbreathers started spreading the name of an actual trans helicopter pilot as being the one responsible.

To the Magats she's already responsible, after all she was obviously a DEI hire and a Biden staff member at the White House.
