Ed Does anyone here believe that Princess Diana's car crash was suspicious?

"The targets will be in an armoured S-class Mercedes. With luck, we'll correctly predict their route and at some point they'll overtake you, probably at speed. If you see them coming and swerve your little Fiat at just the right moment as they pass, the driver may flinch and lose control.

Everyone knows these enormous Mercedes saloons are a death trap. Most unsafe cars on the road. Especially the ones modified to provide extra protection to high value individuals. They haven't a chance. Oh, so long as none of them wears a seatbelt. Probably be fine."

Something like that, you reckon? That's their brilliant plan?

Whoa! You asked for a possible method, I simply acquiesced and suggested one. I didn't say there was 'a brilliant plan'.

I forgot about the claimed fiat.

You're welcome. I'm both amused and curious because as I recall it's not the first time you've writted "em fifteen" instead of "em eye five" and it seems a very odd idiosyncracy.

Aaaaah, you've got it there!

MI5 operate within the UK; MI6 operate outside; M15 is the skunk works that no-one, aside from a certain couple of folk In The Know, talk about.

As for me, I'm so far ahead that I have a M135. You'll die if you even look at me.

Yeah, we are all so uneducated and wet behind the ears here, we had no idea about any of this. Isn't the world an exciting place to learn something new every day!

Let's play devil's advocate re your theory that MI5 (or any of the French operatives) can't possibly have been involved, as an armoured S-class Mercedes is so unlikely to be struck by a little fiat, especially as it is an enormous Mercedes saloon.

Do the maths and physics. A car travelling at even 40mph but in this case, up to 100mph, or maybe slightly less in entering the tunnel.

Tell me: what happens when a car driving at that velocity comes into contact with a solid object such as a tree or, in this case, a concrete pillar?

Hmmm?

Well, we know the answer to that, but where does the Fiat come into it?

Presumably the theory is it caused it to swerve into the pillar, resulting in a tailspin. If you have ever seen pictures of cars crashed into a tree you will be aware that being in a big saloon Merc won't give you complete protection from the impact.

They are literally as far apart as you can get on a keyboard....

MU5, MO5, M85- sure thats a possible typo...
M15???
Not so much...
Purely in fairness: I sometimes type based on my visual approximation of what the word looks like, rather than sounds like. Typing M (lowercase 'L') 5 is the kind of thing I do sometimes, too.

Do you think about what you're posting? I've seen pictures of the actual car that hit the concrete pillar.
What's missing is any evidence that it was caused by anything other than a drunk driver.

Drunk driver has an accident. Sadly, nothing at all unusual.

Except that numerous people (including Al Fayed and the driver's parents and the guy's friends and brother) challenged the idea that Henri Paul was a drunk. Even The New York Times challenged that. The hotel has cameras literally everywhere and the cameras showed him maybe having two glasses and smoking cigars, at best (worst?).

Blood samples were taken from his corpse...but there's a dispute over whether that was the correct corpse.

Buzzed driving, especially when speeding with motorcycles around you, can easily end in a wreck. It doesn't matter if your friends think you are a drunk or not. I've stood over the entrance to that tunnel. It's not the wide open thing you might be picturing. She's tight.

Henri Paul was found with a cocktail of drugs in his bloodstream, not just alcohol. I think these were antidepressants and stuff. In addition, Henri Paul notified the paparazzi milling around outside that Princess Diana was about to leave the hotel. In effect, he encouraged a high-speed chase and he wasn't as good a driver as he thought he was. He should have slowed down entering the tunnel but didn't bother.
