Transwomen are not Women - Part 15

A blanket ban would mean they would be banned from competing in the Olympics at all!
FtM athletes would be banned for using cross-sex hormones to masculinize their bodies.

MtF athletes would fail to qualify because they used cross-sex hormones to feminize their bodies.

NB athletes could still compete, assuming they never transitioned.

Lots of people aren't good enough to make the Olympics, whether they dope or not. Nobody is banned just because they're not good enough, or indeed if they take legal drugs that deteriorate their performance. That's not what "banned" means. (Yes, anyone taking testosterone should be banned, just as they would be if they took any other performance enhancing drug.)

You're probably right, but from my position of ignorance, I wouldn't have an enormous amount of confidence that banned substances might well include things that don't actually enhance performance. That would be too sensible.

I was using the middle letter in those two acronyms to indicate physical transition, but must suppose you're thinking of people who only ever transitioned socially. Anyhow, I'm going to make a prediction here: We won't be seeing any more Olympic athletes becoming (in)famous for breaking sex barriers the way Laurel Hubbard did in the OP or the way Lia Thomas did in the Ivy League.

Agree. This should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. Biological males have NO BUSINESS competing in women's sports.

I couldn't believe it was happening. Right at the start I was saying, well, if you choose to transition that's your prerogative, but choices have consequences, and not playing competitive sport might be a consequence you have to live with.

Interesting results from a recent Pew Research Centre US survey.

Compared with adults, teens aged up to 17 are less likely to say they know somebody who identifies as transgender but more likely to know somebody who identifies as nonbinary.

When asked if gender is determined by sex at birth, US teens are now slightly more likely to answer 'yes' than adults. Even 50% of teens who identify as democrats say gender is determined by sex at birth. (Personally I dislike this question and would not know how to answer it).
Almost as many teens as adults (50% vs 54%) say they are uncomfortable with using they/them pronouns.

Relevant to the OP

Transgender athletes face blanket ban at Olympics https://search.app/Ve5JoPewnpAKM8pT8
Lies in advertising? The headline is entirely false, and I would say it's intentionally misleading. The very first sentence is "Transgender women are increasingly likely to be banned from the female category"

The headline gives the false impression that the Olympics are looking at completely banning ALL transgender athletes - both male and female - from being allowed to compete in any fashion. And that's simply not true. MALES may be banned from competing in FEMALE sports. Transgender identified females, however, can still compete against females provided they aren't taking testosterone.

Yes, exogenous steroid use has been banned for decades. Nothing new there.
MtF athletes would fail to qualify because they used cross-sex hormones to feminize their bodies.
Oh tnoes! They are still allowed to compete against their fellow males. If they handicap themselves on purpose, that's their own issue.
NB athletes could still compete, assuming they never transitioned.
Males and females who don't like being male or female but don't exogenously enhance their performance are allowed to compete within their own sex classes (even if they don't like belonging to their sex class) just as they always have.

The fad is waning among teens. I've seen a lot of (anecdotal social media) backlash that suggests kids are kind of fed up with it, especially the nonbinary stuff.

ETA: I speculate that it's somewhat like D&D when I was a teen. It was a pretty cool idea, had a lot of potential. The few times I played, I had a pretty good time. Then someone joined the part that took it waaaaaayyyyyyy too seriously and kind of put me off the entire concept. Now I just stick to D&D themed solo-play video games so I don't have to deal with the looneys, but I can still have fun tossing some fireballs around every now and then.

Well, have at it.

I note that our resident "It's all fine because doctors have researched this carefully and are following international agreed best practice" contingent haven't been around lately.

It's amazing how the far-left just gifted this issue to Republicans.

I pretty much find nothing to fault here. Its the beginning of an end to the BS

This bit I found interesting however...

Sec. 3. Ending Reliance on Junk Science.
(a) The blatant harm done to children by chemical and surgical mutilation cloaks itself in medical necessity, spurred by guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which lacks scientific integrity. In light of the scientific concerns with the WPATH guidance:
(i) agencies shall rescind or amend all policies that rely on WPATH guidance, including WPATH’s “Standards of Care Version 8...
(b) The Secretary of HHS, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law, shall use all available methods to increase the quality of data to guide practices for improving the health of minors with gender dysphoria, rapid-onset gender dysphoria, or other identity-based confusion, or who otherwise seek chemical or surgical mutilation.
Is this a hint that the US Govt is pushing towards declaring gender dysphoria to be a mental illness?

It's amazing how the far-left just gifted this issue to Republicans.
Indeed. I am a Liberal (always have been, always will be) and I'm really annoyed with how people of my political persuasion have bought into gender ideology, and are parroting the talking points of Trans-Radical activists. I firmly believe this was a significant factor in the low Democrat turnout in November.

If the Dems ever want to regain power, they need to spend the next four years aggressively distancing themselves from those policies.

Why would the US government be declaring gender dysphoria a mental illness? That's not the role of the US government.

Besides, there is no secretary of HHS yet and the one that is being proposed is a lunatic.

It would make much more sense for the US government to commission research into this rather than just simply make political or ideological declarations. In the past you have complained about "ideologically captured institutions" when this is almost the perfect example of one.

Seriously? You think that would stop them?

Well, there you go then!!
