Split Thread Diversity Equity and Inclusion and merit in employment etc

'When they came for the DEI hires, I said nothing, because I am not a DEI hire, I was the most qualified candidate. They fired me because I looked like a DEI hire.'

Point being that declaring all non-white-males DEI is discrimination. Now federally mandated discrimination.

It’s official. DEI has been banned in the federal government. Trump has rescinded (on Day One, as promised) Biden’s two executive orders (EO13985 and 14095) that mandated DEI throughout the federal government. Trump further ordered that

The heads of each agency shall take immediate steps to end Federal implementation of unlawful and radical DEI ideology.

All US science funding agencies (NSF, NIH, NASA, etc.) were subject to the aforementioned Biden executive orders, which meant that, as a requirement for funding, applicants had to demonstrate that their research would advance DEI ideology. The funding agencies themselves were required to advance DEI, which meant that they gave preference in funding to minority applicants.

With the stroke of a pen, all this is over. The funding of fundamental research that has no connection to DEI will no longer be threatened, and research proposals will be funded on the basis of their scientific merit without regard to the applicant’s skin color.
U.S. science funding agencies responded immediately to the federal ban on DEI. I just received an email from a NASA program administer saying that effective immediately NASA is acting to "end the Inclusion Plan Pilot Study, remove requirements for Inclusion Plans and the evaluation factors associated with them, and adjust the content of some other Program Elements to remove references to NASA’s DEIA programs.... Rceived proposals..., if they [included] required Inclusion Plans, those plans will not be reviewed and will not impact the selection of proposals."

In other words, proposals for NASA funding will be judged strictly on the basis of their scientific merits without regard to the applicant's race or gender. It seems surreal that until literally yesterday decisions of federal science funding took the applicant's race and gender into account.

It's nice that you think that's what's going to happen.

It's nutty to me that so many people seem to think that "You're no longer allowed to give preferential treatment to group A" means that somehow group A is now going to receive disadvantageous discriminatory treatment. Or that group B will now receive preferential treatment.

MLK Jr. has got to be rolling over in their grave, ready to set the entire country on fire at this point.

Orders have already been given to get rid of anyone that looks faintly DEI.

Dark people, people how speak Spanish, women, people with disabilities. They will all be out.

He's ordered the purge to extend to private companies and corporations.

How the hell do your last two sentences follow from the first?

Relevant excerpts:

“Why do we have DEI?” [Rev. Al Sharpton] asked a crowd gathered at a black church a few blocks from the White House on Monday. “We have DEI because you denied us diversity, you denied us equity, you denied us inclusion. DEI was a remedy to the racial institutional bigotry practised in academia and in these corporations.”

In 2022, McKinsey & Company noted that companies that are diverse, equitable and inclusive were better able to respond to challenges, win top talent and meet the needs of varied customer bases. The focus on diversity allowed them to find talent wherever it may be, while the expanding focus on equity and inclusion helped minimise employee turnover, reducing expenses such as hiring and training.

The finding was backed by another report, published in 2020, that analysed 1,000 US firms. It found that companies with greater gender and ethnic diversity were more likely to outperform their peers. The difference was significant, with gender diversity leading to a 25% probability of higher profits, while ethnic diversity led to a 36% probability.

I will not be taking questions.

I think a lot of the DEI stuff was silly, but I afriad this a lot of the people who screamd about DEI have no problem w ith dricimination as long as it is aginst non white people.

I see our bigtime ANTI DEI supporter had ot replied to my pointing out Trump revoking a 6o year old EO banning all discrimination.

What about Trump revoking a 1964 EO banning discrimination?
The intent of that EO was turned on its head during the Nixon era. The phrase “affirmative action” in the EO was reinterpreted as requiring federal contractors to have certain minimum minority ownership or employment. That EO is considered the legal foundation of modern racial preferences and quotas.

The EO that rescinds the Equal Employment Opportunity order of 1965 also says says illegal private-sector DEI preferences, mandates, policies, programs, and activities. should be terminated and Trump has ordered federal agencies to identify "up to nine potential civil compliance investigations of publicly traded corporations, large non-profit corporations or associations, foundations with assets of 500 million dollars or more, State and local bar and medical associations, and institutions of higher education with endowments over 1 billion dollars."
