Trump's Second Term

Spinning away from windmills, today the Texas legislature succeeded in finally banning any Democrat from holding a committee chair. Cause we can't have any dems in power positions now that MAGA has achieved a mandate from the people. The MAGA coup continues at the state level...
Texas Coup
Easy solution. Any Democrats wanting a committee chair simply declare they aren't in the party now. They get a chair, and can immediately rejoin.
GOP: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The killing birds excuse is pathetic, but not quite as ridiculous as Trump’s proclamation that turbines at sea kill whales.

That was just a pretence to cover that the Navy don't want to risk hitting them when they practice using their flying, wheeled submarines to sink ships by holing them above the waterline.

"Y'know, those windmills and solar farms... sure would be a shame if something were, y'know, to, uh, happen to them..."

We spent a fair amount putting solar panels all over our roof, and installing a battery system too, all legally. We will never have to pay an electric bill again, at our current rate of consumption. Is Donnie proposing to make us take it all down?
Probably.
If he makes people and power companies get rid of them Texas is in trouble.

Every person doing work with NIH federal funding got a message today. I saw it. Essentially:
"Trump's cabinet head will need to reviews your every paper and other presentation."
Two days in and chaos in…cancer research?
Because Trump has ordered the National Institutes of Health to cancel their review panels on cancer research.

Apparently it's because all the money is being fraudulently syphoned off.
That's why they haven't found a cure after more than 50 years of research.

it’s only bad for all the scammers raking in all those tax dollars to find a cure for cancer while knowingly covering up the real, readily available cures.

Smells badly of RFK Jr. He just wants more bodies to strap to the roof of his car.

As a geography student, I was part of a group project which looked into wind turbines outside an island municipality in Norway. We were tipped off about a research project looking at a large field of wind turbines off Scottland which monitored birds with cameras and radar. They apparently observed no collisions over a period of two years.

Of course, this is just one study and it's wind turbines on sea, not land, but still really interesting.

But how many whales got cancer?

Well no, it its a well established fact that turbines kill lots of birds, depending on your source 100,000-million a year. If you have any solid evidence that is not the case, present it. But to be clear, I am not arguing for fossil fuels, they are worse overall for our environment. And certainly there are greater threats to birds--like house cats.
As a bit of an aside, as one who worked as a weather forecaster (NWS) for 14 years I can tell you another real annoying thing about wind farms--they make it extremely tricky to get good radar data for weather forecasts and forecasting models. Because the turbines move, they are essentially picked up by doppler radar and register as precipitation (a wind farm can look like a strong thunderstorm on radar) which can wreck havoc with weather data.
Cell phone towers kill millions of birds a year. Tall buildings kill 100's of millions of birds a year. Cats kill around a billion birds a year.

It's hard to believe that wind farms would be any more likely to show up on radar than tall buildings would (though tall buildings would only show up on reflectivity images and not on radial velocity images). And even if they did, they would always be in the same location so the forecaster should be able to adjust for them (forecasters in mountainous regions have to adjust for mountain peaks showing up in radar images).

Which weather forecast model(s) use(s) weather radar data?

My Finnish tax hating friend gave a pdf from https://thefga.org/.
Who knew there could be a rational way to cut down "big government." The figures on the state level jobs go state by state. My state for example does NOT pay higher salary than the equivalent jobs in the private sector. That paper probably exaggerates based on blue state salaries.

The Trump team approach is not this. It is simply to slash federal jobs by the thousand.
