General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

Badenoch has criticized the government for not squandering tens of thousands fighting the Kneecap decision likening it to the Chagos Islands deal.

Of course there are big differences. For a start with the latter, the government was simply putting in force a deal the Conservatives put in place. In the former, it would appear that the Conservatives seemed to be willing to waste money virtue signalling at a time when the public finances are a mess. Of course the sums are small compared to the tens of billions in the public sector cash black hole.

I was impressed, and amazed, by David Davis (yes, him) making a rational and reasonable point; the case for keeping the debate going by voting for the bill., therwise it would be dropped for at least a decade.

Reform UK skip debate on future of fishing after claiming they are only interested party

Representatives from the Reform UK party were nowhere to be seen as MPs debated the UK fishing industry in parliament.

Richard Tice had claimed that they are the only party that will protect and promote British fishing, but they were noticeably absent when the issue came up in parliament.

This is what it looks like when Parliament functions as intended, debating an idea and trying to thrash out a reasonable policy.

It's a shock to see it happening though. Perhaps whipping (in the parliamentary sense) should be banned?

Elon says he has the "blueprint to a Reform government in 2029."

Plans are being made to save Britain.

Well if this is in line with his other plans I wouldn't expect much before 2035, and that assumes the Trump regime makes it to 2028.

Whipping is probably fair enough for things that were in a party’s manifesto or charter (or whipping against things which directly contradict something in there); the constituency elected them on that basis and should expect them to put those things through to the best of their ability. For other things, it would be nice to see more free votes and better debate.
