Any speculation on the church burnings?

As of today, 10 baptist churches in northern Alabama have been burned by arsonists.

Does god hate baptists? Why is he not protecting their churches?

Reminds me of the stories about the days before lightning rods. See, the churches would ring their bells during thunderstorms to drive away the demons that were causing the storms and the church steeples were usually the tallest structures in town. . .

Amazing how many bell ringers got hit by lightning, and how little God seemed to care about it.

It's probably Hephaestus. Fire is totally his M.O. Although I wouldn't rule out Zoroaster or Pele. Hawaiian volcano Pele, not soccer Pele. Unless they were working together. He's not Baptist, is he?

The police think that it is 2 suspects, working together, so I suppose it could be both at that...

I was surprised to hear mostly-white churches were burned as well as mostly-black, due to the rural Southern location. In any case, I think it's horrible. Those little rural churches provide a great many community services, and many families benefit from their existence.

I'd go looking to find out what the pastors of these churches had in the way of fire insurance.

Oh yes, I "went there."

Presumably the insurers will just shrug their shoulders and say "God must be testing you and we don't provide cover for 'acts of God'"

I think it's the government (as usual) just trying to stir up more right-wing rage to get them to fall in line to whatever figurehead they're worshipping into office in 2008. That, or someone just doesn't like Baptists. Or God just likes raising hell and driving crappy SUVs.

Gay liberals? Don't think so.

It's probably a couple of kids with a chip on their shoulder and a trust fund.

George Bush is behind this too?

Any speculation on the church burnings? Clearly there is! Any informed opinions? Not sure yet. It would help if I had done a little research before posting this response.

Well, if you compare what people have seen regarding a dark SUV driving away from each of these incidents and compare them to the mysterious van during the DC Sniper shootings in 2001-2, then that means that we know absolutely nothing at all and are guessing rabidly until something concrete shows up.

Until then, be sure to stock your local church with marshmellows. Might as well get some good out of this.
