Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 3

The house race is at 214 for GOP, 18 seats to be called.
If the race ends up 217 democrats and 218 GOP, then what? Are there individual house members that would vote to kick out every illegal, but would still refuse to repeal Obamacare?

Some of the take away i get is that Trump peeled away a bunch of minority demographics from the democrats, despite vehement Harris, Democrat, and media portrayals of Trump and his supporters being racists and mysoginists.... but its also apparent that not only overall turnout was lower, but those of those that did vote, a decent chunk of 2020 Biden voters went Trump this time around...

Not withstanding the irony of commentors now calling the minority voters that went Trump, themselves racist and mysoginistic...

Its also a stunning irony how members of the media are suddenly pulling a 180 on issues like trans-males being in womens' sports, and locker rooms... I could swear just a week ago if I brought that up I'd be skewered as anti-trans.

This is funny. You do know that trans-males are women who have through hormonal therapy and surgery have the physical appearance of men and that men who go through the hormonal and surgery to become women are trans-women. I don't notice much hysteria about trans-males in men sports, perhaps they should compete in womens' sports.

As for the 180 degree change. The utter hysteria over the threat of trans people is darkly amusing. The North Carolina law requiring people to use the bathrooms of their birth sex is hilarious. I know a couple of actual trans-men, with beards, hairy chests, very masculine upper body muscle, no doubt women seeing such a person using a womens washroom wouldn't find it even slightly alarming, but a trans-woman using such a washroom is a threat and must be forced to use a mens bathroom. Whatever. (P.S. now men can use womans bathrooms, just claim to be a trans-man.)

Trans people are going to find things will get worst for them, has this win will embolden the idiots.

Has for voting for Trump. I guess a lot of people thought that Trump's idiotic behavior in 2020, after the election was not a big deal. I find that disturbing.

USA: From much discussed, to much disgust, in one election... or was that a knuckle drag race? Zero excuses left, no fig leaf to cover, no way to hide from eternal lowbrow, kowtow, bow-wow status.

Must hurt.

It does. I recognize that I am actually going through some of the stages of grief. In 2016, I could take some comfort in knowing that Trump got the electoral votes, but that most of us did NOT vote for him. I don't even have that small comfort anymore. The majority of Americans are idiots and I'm thoroughly ashamed. The world has solid ground to look at us and sneer. And the comments of some Trump supporters here just reinforce my view.

I find some bit of comfort in knowing that, statistically, it was really just 30% of the electorate who voted for the madness (245 million eligible, 74 million voted for him) In conjunction with the fact that approximately 20% of the population are not sure whether the earth is round or that we really landed on the moon. This has been true for a while, and simply indicates that we are a nation of the gullible and the uneducated. Of that 20%, they were 2-3 times as likely to vote for Trump.
It hurts me the most having lost a few friends who are educated and smart, and ought to know better. They are so attached to their pet 'policies' or worldview that they are willing to overlook that the person who they trust to protect or advance their interests is probably the most documented conman of all history, someone completely devoid of ethics or morality. The mental gymnastics they do to avoid their approval of this behavior is both disturbing and sad.

According to Elon it's not a coincidence that the places where the Dems won don't have photo id for voting.

I didn't get my info for that post from chatgpt.
I didn't mean that you did for that post. You referred to chatgpt when we were discussing recent voter ID laws in California. It won't cover recent changes in the law. It was not meant as insult, it's just to clarify your information source will not be up to date.

You have stated, numerous times: by law no ID is required to vote in California.
And it has been pointed out to you, numerous times, tnis is a FALSE statement!
You continue to double down on it, over and over again, as a deliberate lie--or perhaps to attempt to cover up your ignorance.
It has been pointed out to you, numerous times, that CA expressly requires voter ID--regardless of what form that takes--in order to register to vote, which in turn is needed to vote! In fact, that is their public argument in favor of the law forbidding an ID *presentation* by local officials--that it is a redundant requirement! whether that is an adequate burden to meet to ensure a fair process is a separate issue--and until you acknowledge that basic fact, continuing to lie about it, and bringing up side issues about whether or not AB 60 ID is a recipe for voter fraud, there is no getting through your thick skull. So stop obfuscating and bring yourself up to speed on the facts if you want to make an argument as a "real" skeptic!
ETA: in anticipation of your repeated claim that we are splitting hairs about ID requirements--I have just told you, that in 6 states I have voted in for decades, I have never had to present an ID upon voting *in person* at the polls! So stop insisting that CA is making some sort of novel requirement to vote. It's only novel in your paranoid, delusional brain!
Once again an emotional response. Opinion without a single fact to back it up. My original claim that California elections have been made less secure by Democrat Governor Newsom's actions stands as proven fact. Whether you understand these facts or not is irrelevant. You're not going to be able to insult your way out of this one.

Not an opinion--it is a FACT that you made an intentional false statement. I put it in bold to help you read it better. You can't weasel your way out of it by ignoring the fact and then raising the goalpost and deflecting by rambling on about something completely different.

I don't have to insult you, your responses are self-insulting. You haven't proven anything. Citing one example where a few illegals managed to vote because a mistake was made (not "Governor Newsom's actions") proves nothing. As an analogy, It's about as stupid as saying "The Death Penalty Saves Lives!" and then citing one example of where a released felon went on to kill someone, and then arguing hypothetically that if he had been killed first, the later death would have been prevented. Completely ignoring that dozens of other examples could be given of someone who was innocent being executed by the state. It didn't save their lives, did it?? That is what you are doing, being shallow-minded and unwilling to admit it.

You admit the possibility exists as you acknowledged it has already happened. There may be hope for you yet.

LOL, I think there's hope for *all* of us--I'm the eternal optimist. I even think there's hope for Donald Trump. One night, as he is ranting in all CAPS about Haitians and Mexicans attempting to break into the White House to eat his nonexistent dogs, some vein or capillary will burst in his brain and he will suddenly have a coming-to-Jesus moment, hold a press conference to announce that he recognizes his illness and has allowed Dr. Phil to provide him with free intensive therapy. JD Vance will then take over and have an immediate coming-out party to announce his new super-woke agenda for the planet. I mean--it could happen! I won't hold my breath though, I'll keep up the vigilant prep to ward off the coming evil and darkness.
