General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

What I found disturbing, far more than the ramblings on Musk's online madhouse is the way some British newspapers seemed almost admiring of a convicted felon, adulterer, fraudster and insurrectionists has managed to become President again. I fear greatly that they will be only too happy to side with Trump against our own government.

'Twas e'er thus.

Applies to many countries

Yes, but I think among western allies the situation where the President of one country has a personal relationship with a politician in the second who is trying to bring down the country's government is pretty much unique.

One might think that Lemby Babes, as a sometime Liberal Democrat, would be pretty viscerally opposed to everything Trumpian.

However, some of us remember when he was our Lib Dem councillor in Newcastle and ran a bullying campaign against one of his neighbours via the local Lib Dem newsletter (the "Door of Shame").

So, not a surprise that he comes out with this sort of thing. Twunt.
I've actually met Opik, and trounced him in an argument about renewable energy. I can confirm, from personal experience, that the guy is an ass- opinionated, ill-informed and petulant.

How about a British Member of Parliament commenting on the telegraph story that Senior Republicans have cast doubt on the deal and Farage is 'voicing concern and criticism of the deal' to the Trump team?

A quick skim through Twitter will show others claiming that Trump will scupper the treaty because it gives China a chance to build a base next to the US base because Mauritius will jump in to the China camp.

Nigel was also waffling about it on GB News. He's going to get Trump to tell Starmer not to do it.

Strange that so many that cheered for Brexit because it would give us our sovereignty back are eager for a foreign leader to tell us what to do.
Confirmation that Nige lives deep in Trump's diaper, and loves it there.

Oh dear. Jeremy Clarkson 'tells of his fury'.

JEREMY Clarkson told of his fury tonight after farmers were apparently blocked from protesting in the capital against Labour’s hated “tractor tax”.

He was among hundreds planning to attend a rally on November 19 against Budget inheritance tax hikes that will hit agricultural properties. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/31580708/tractor-tax-protest-blocked-fury/

Shall we start a crowd fund for poor, poor Jezza? We mustn't let his kids go destitute when he kicks the bucket.

As ever, those anti-protest laws were not meant to affect their protests! It's criminal they are being used against us!

While I'm not going to follow the link to the Sun, I am just going to enjoy imagining they got Clarkson to stand for the traditional "tells of his fury" photo, arms folded and glaring at a tractor.

And of course the other side will never be the ones in power. Also hundreds of protestors? Will anyone even notice them?

Apparently the National Union of Farmers has restricted the lobbying to their members only (is Clarkson a member, one wonders?). It is an NFU decision not a Met Police one, despite Clarkson crying that 'they let' the Pro-Palestinian and Just Stop Oil protestors protest, boo-hoo.

“The NFU have said officially they don’t want to disrupt people’s lives, but I have it on very good authority they have been told to do this.” The union is restricting its lobbying event to 1,800 registered members and urging against street protests.

A message to farmers on Wednesday said: “There are legal issues which mean we can’t simply turn up in numbers in Westminster in the streets or the open spaces.

<snip>

The Met Police said: “At no point have we banned anyone from marching on this date. We will work with anyone wishing to organise a peaceful protest.” https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/31580708/tractor-tax-protest-blocked-fury/

Because of where the line break showed up on my screen, I initially read "ass-opinionated" as one word -a hyphenated adjective like "ill-informed"- and was wondering why you didn't finish the sentence. :)

I always visualise SUN and DAILY EXPRESS readers as being in a permanent state of 'FURY' as that seems to be their favourite headline word. ('HUMILIATED' is another one they like to use, usually in respect of Starmer.)

Who thinks the right wing shouters will get their way and the veterans marching on Sunday will turn their backs on Starmer and refuse to lay their wreaths if he does?

Nigel says Trump has been invited to address Parliament.

He was invited by Nigel, the Speaker's Office knows nothing about it.

I figured Farage was either trying to bounce Hoyle into doing it or get Hoyle to deny it in a manner Farage intended to be embarassing and allow him to jeer that Britain is anti-Trump. Or somesuch nonsensical nonsesne.

Why the actual ◊◊◊◊ our Parliament should want Trump to come and spout his incomprehensible drivel at them is beyond me.

Come back Guy Fawkes, all is forgiven!
