Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 3

Only?
Yeah, in theory EU has the potential. But the EU also has its Orbans, and lots of right wing extreme parties. Trump will be a massive boost for those. Good luck to us using the already overstressed budgets for creating and maintaining a capable military while fighting against the right wing demagoges.
The thing is, the likes of Orbann and his ilk have a very precarious hold on power and have to walk a very narrow tightrope wrt Putain, whose goal is to subsume their countries back into the Russian empire. T****y won't give two shakes of a lambs tail about all this, not just because he won't have the brain capacity to understand the situation, and will push the likes of Orban into directions they won't go.

I went to bed last night when it was looking bad. I didn't find out the results until a few minutes ago. I want to post in 100-point font but I'll just do it in all caps:

HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN?

I can't even go into what I think this means for the country. I am so distraught I can't even think straight. That's all I can say for now.

Well, at least it wasn't close lol. She definitely got her ass handed to her across the map, the Dems in general did. I think Trump got the trifecta didn't he? So saddle up, we're about to see the worst case scenario for about 2 years. Glad I live in North Dakota, we're generally pretty isolated from most things.

You encounter a person on the street who is clutching their chest and having a heart attack. There is nobody else around. You have three options:

1. You can call 911 and do whatever you can to help until they arrive.
2. You can stomp on their chest and finish them off.
3. You can walk away and do nothing, letting them die on their own.

Only 65 million American adults cared enough about Democracy to try Option 1. About 71 million stomped on it and finished it off. But another 80 million or so didn't give a ◊◊◊◊ and walked away to let it die.

I don't know how those 80 million would have voted, but in my view they are just as bad as the Trump voters. They didn't give a ◊◊◊◊ about ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ democracy! But I'm sure many of them will be among the first to complain when things go sour for them.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -- Ben Franklin

“A republic, if you can keep it.” -- Ben Franklin

Americans have sold their freedom for an illusion of security and prosperity. Only time will tell if they can recover it.

If the House goes Red, then it will be a Superfecta: White House, House of Representatives, Senate and Supreme Court.

I think we're missing the important thing here.

After Cleveland buggered it up once before, Trump is going to make the presidential numbering system even more wrong now.

Pacal-

Kamala was deemed to be the most progressive Senator during her time there. Left of Bernie. There was no one in the senate to left of Kamala.
Every policy she had 6 years ago is either opposite now or she won't talk about it.

*Edit to add name as quote didn't go through.
Whatever. It still doesn't make her much of a Left Wing radical. But of course in the U.S. what is characterized as Left Wing raises little but laughter outside the U.S.

Supply chain problems during Covid triggered Inflation. The Biden Administration pulled off a soft landing. Bringing the inflation rate down to about 2% without creating a recession or high unemployment. The voters blamed Harris for the problem instead of giver her credit for the solution.

Really, her campaign amounted to "I'm not Trump!" Ultimately that wasn't enough. She was a joke of a candidate IMO.

Good news for Trump haters: this is the very last time you'll have to endure him as POTUS. I hope that we'll still be around in 4 yrs to celebrate.
Well that's it isn't its owning the Libs. Trump's first term wasn't exactly much of success. Concerning Trump haters, given the astounding cult like worship around him and of him that sort of attracts dislike and of course we all know Trump's great respect for Democracy - cough, cough January 6th 2021 and all things related to that.

The next four years will be very interesting in the U.S.

Absolutely. There's an understanding in American (and probably other) politics of 'It's the economy stupid' in terms of what voters care about and that indeed seems to be what has given the result to Trump except bizarrely the US Economy is in pretty good shape but people have been convinced it's dreadful.

U.S. voters sold out their vote to a long con, to a convicted felon, an adjudicated rapist, and a serial liar/philanderer . . . given that, there should be no talk ever about family or christian* values. There should be no talk of law and order. Laugh in their faces when these credules try to sell that bull ◊◊◊◊.

The dismal science is poorly understood by most people.

I feel terrible for the whole world. Trump isn't just a disaster for the US, his foreign policy will be a disaster for the world. Putin will likely get his way in Ukraine, and all restrictions will be off of Israel - the genocide will go into higher gear. If there are tariffs to come, there may be trade wars. Autocrats around the world will be emboldened, as they know they have a friend in the White House. Allies will wonder whether the US will live up to it's commitments if the ◊◊◊◊ hits the fan.

“In four years, you won’t have to vote again.”
"Very fine people on both sides"

Both were out of context quotes and hoaxes that, fortunately, the majority of American voters were not dumb enough to believe.
Could you please bring evidence for this? Both have been discussed previously, and the context did not seem to change the meaning of his statements. And I have never heard they should be hoaxes either.

And any hope of slowing global warming has gone down the drain. Besides, he wants to ensure that only the rich can be healthy. As you say, all of this will encourage neofascists and autocrats all over the world, so the repercussions are truly global.
