Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 3

So what begins? Ridicule of the US? Yes that.
Well just remember that not all Americans were Trump voters.

He didn't mention anything about his opponent in his victory speech. Kind of rude and non-traditional, but whatever. At least he didn't say anything about retribution. That'll probably come tomorrow.

Not at all surprised. As an artist I've been watching the masses for months embrace AI and virtual reality as the new reality, and it goes hand in hand with Trumps alternative facts. We are seeing the triumph of pseudoscience over science, propaganda over facts. Mass information, some of it foreign directed. It's how so many in the electorate bought the 'big lie' of the last election. When you even have people on a forum like this, dedicated to facts and critical thinking, who normalize Trump's behavior, there's not much hope. My only optimism is that since Trump is old and in bad shape, perhaps he won't be Armerica's Hilter. While there are plenty around him who could cause much damage, they are not cult leaders.

I can't express strongly enough my contempt for those who voted for that sick SOB. I'm disgusted beyond words. Buckle up. It's going to be a hell of an ugly ride for the next four years.
Well after two years there will be a referendum on it, assuming democratic institutions survive. But it will be pretty ugly even for 2...

No, the hissy fits. If it doesn't include riots, I'll be impressed.
I had predicted that in the event of a Trump win that the hard left would riot. But I didn't predict that Trump would win so definitively. I think in the face of such a massive defeat, the far left won't have much incentive to rise up again and burn down minority-owned businesses.

Or violently storm the Capitol.

I have a cousin who probably voted for him and a great aunt who lives in Maine said Trump scares her.

All I can say is that the US electorate had a legitimate excuse in 2016. They didn’t know then that Trump would be the worst President of all time. But they did now. A rapist criminal, liar, racist, misogynistic moron. But they still reelected him.
"To elect Trump once, America, may be regarded as a misfortune..."

I don't feel sorry Harris or the Democrats, I feel sorry for us in Europe, especially eastern Europe and Zelensky. Putin must be cracking open his bottle of vintage champagne he has saved for this, in celebration. Oh well, the silver lining over here is that this no doubt will help unite Europe more tightly, and may even be a trigger for the UK to look at rejoining the EU again.

Stacy, Try Heather Heying, biologist.
She takes students into nature for weeks at a time.
This is the most appropriate of a score of high quality dissertations by strong intelligent women I have found, who have voted for Trump.

I applaud your optimism but even if the UK were minded to re-join, the EU would think very carefully before agreeing to that happening.

I hope that the EU and the rest of Europe respond constructively to a second Trump presidency. My fear is that Trump will make this nigh on impossible and will be interested in settling scores with those who "betrayed" him (Ukraine, the EU) and on cosying up to those who he likes (Putin, Modi, Xi, Orban and so on).

I know I'm the board's resident Debbie Downer but IMO when it comes to Trump and his ilk, it's near impossible to overestimate the risks.

yeah i guess you guys are on your own with the whole ukraine bit.

obviously i think this is the worse of the two outcomes. but on the bright side i guess we'll finally get so see some of these policies conservatives liked so much that they ignored the in your face stupidity, greed, and corruption for.

I read it and it seems to be the usual collection of lies, delusions and propaganda.

The notion that Trump isn't owned is laughable, the Mercers, Putin et al have bought and paid for him. The idea that he's better for women, because trans, flies in the face of facts and he's already demonstrated for four years that he doesn't give a **** about regular Americans.

I said months ago that the Americans wouldn't elect a woman but I was laughed at.

Can't seem to find the post now.

The EU would love a lost member to return with cap in hand, what a coup!

It is precisely the issue of a fear of Trump "settling scores" rather than having a change of heart and embracing his detractors that prompted my post in the first place. Europe and the UK need to prepare for this and take measures in mitigation.

When they made him a rapist felon criminal (and btw, not charged or convicted or found liable for "rape"),
it was evident that lawfare was in place.
Some skeptics aren't acting skeptical in these cases.

Trump is not some angel, but for sure he was persecuted to lengths excessive to any other case after he took office.

I think the people involved in creating, funding, spreading, and perpetuating the Russian hoax which spied on his campaign and then hampered the Presidency for years should be charged with treason- because that is what is was.
No.
