A couple of things that sucks about modern politics is one side is always going to say the other side is forcing such and such and limiting our freedom. This mostly generated by the extremes and prevents real work to help the planet and economy and such. Trump is just this to get elected for his ego.
 
All I can say is that the US electorate had a legitimate excuse in 2016. They didn’t know then that Trump would be the worst President of all time. But they did now. A rapist criminal, liar, racist, misogynistic moron. But they still reelected him.

The rest of the civilised world is now laughing at the US electorate. Many in the US will not care, but they will when his policies will result in trade wars, a likely recession and rampant inflation. And climate disaster.

Let's just admit that Kamala was the absolute worst campaigner for president, ever.

Trump could have been defeated by a more common sense centrist Democrat. Not his fault they didn't give him much competition.

Kamala could not do the Sista Soulja statement and acknowledge the shift from the far left failed policies and give a new path- a path of her own vision that the bulk of voters country could get behind.. She just didn't answer. Declined to answer. Nothing but word salad nonsense. Never held a press conference as a candidate. Not one. If you are mad Trump won, blame this choice

I think she ends up on the board of a humantarian NGO, maybe habitat for humanity.
She will be good there.
 
So Americans have voted into Office a Man who conspired to void the 2020 Presidential election, by various extremely dubious means, lost a major defamation case, and is a convicted felon, has made in this election cycle various statements not exactly showing a positive attitude towards continuing Democracy. In fact as politicians go Trump is unusual in his ability to spout falsehoods.

Well I can see that the reason is the economic malaise afflicting the USA, and the rather curious attitude that only Trump can fix it, along with the perception that by voting for Trump they are somehow sticking it to the establishment. The large cult around Trump helped also.

If Trump is intending to turn a new leaf a sign of that would be him admitting, clearly and publicly that he lost the 2020 election if he goes back to his stolen election crap we can expect interesting times.

Do you believe Kamala Harris was "far left"? But then what so many Americans think is "far left" as always struck me as risible.

How could anyone sane take a victory for the Boberts, MTGs, Giulianis, Bannons, Gaetz, Stones, Project 25s etc. take well?
 
When they made him a rapist felon criminal (and btw, not charged or convicted or found liable for "rape"),
it was evident that lawfare was in place.
Some skeptics aren't acting skeptical in these cases.

Trump is not some angel, but for sure he was persecuted to lengths excessive to any other case after he took office.

I think the people involved in creating, funding, spreading, and perpetuating the Russian hoax which spied on his campaign and then hampered the Presidency for years should be charged with treason- because that is what is was.

Oh balls. The guy inherited a recovering economy from Biden and a massive infrastructure cash injection, so things will get built, the economy will be good and the war in Ukraine will end because he'll sell Kiev out to Russia and people will say the Donald's great. :eek:

Kamala was deemed to be the most progressive Senator during her time there. Left of Bernie. There was no one in the senate to left of Kamala.
Every policy she had 6 years ago is either opposite now or she won't talk about it.

Oh, trust me, we're not. This citizen of the rest of the civilized world has been close to tears all morning. Lots of harried faces on the bus to work today, too. We have very close ties to the USA here in Norway, sometimes we even joke we're the unofficial 51st state. There's more Norwegian-Americans in the US than there are Norwegians in Norway. And I can only assume most of us are horrified.

Yeah, they'll learn soon enough. Especially the most at-risk people of fascist policies. There will be a lot of people sobbing "I didn't think they'd eat my face!" in 2025. **** them. If you voted leopards and get eaten, I've got zero sympathy. I pity the people who are too young to vote, or who voted Democrat. They are the innocents in all this.

That is the issue that was uppermost in your mind when you voted for him? Really? Not the economy, which you would be putting into the hands of someone who still doesn't understand how tariffs work? Not health care, that you'd be putting into the hands of people who want to ban all abortion and don't believe in vaccines? Not the safety of your democracy, that you would be putting into the hands of someone who has already tried to steal an election? Not your country's energy policy (and its future climate), that you would be putting into the hands of climate change deniers? Not that you'd be condemning many people who have lived in your community for years, working vital jobs, to a future in which they are torn from their families and deported? Your main concern was that something which hardly ever happens (if it happens at all) should be even less likely to happen?

Are you surprised? Lots of people voted Hitler for his policies on minorities, too. The cruelty is the point, after all.

Really, her campaign amounted to "I'm not Trump!" Ultimately that wasn't enough. She was a joke of a candidate IMO.

Good news for Trump haters: this is the very last time you'll have to endure him as POTUS. I hope that we'll still be around in 4 yrs to celebrate.
