Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

This is chaos theory.
There are unexpected collisions leading to this message board, Vesta then Chuxcillub.
Musk accidentally buying Dorseys nasty little censorious swamp leads to a forum all can join and be heard.

Yeah all welcome....

...snip...

In 2018, 44 per cent of UK Twitter/X users were women according to an Ipsos Mori survey; by January this year, that had dropped to 38 per cent and will, I think, continue to plummet if this is the direction of travel for the platform. ...snip...

Yeah all welcome....
Women are united against their own, a remarkable entrant in the surprise of the decade contest.
I joined the Women's Rights Party NZ because they unpack that dismal phenomenon.
X is the savior of women's campaigns in the West.
Wesley Yang says he can't reach women 18 to 25.
They have been indoctrinated and I avoid conspiracy memes.

No true woman eh?

No true woman eh?

I guess I have to upskill?

"The appeal to purity or no true Scotsman fallacy is an attempt to defend a generalization about a group from a counterexample by shifting the definition of the group in the middle of the argument."

Let someone else please, I welcome it.

IIRC one of our own was banned by X.
No idea.
I can't get banned because I have nothing to add to the show.
I love the fact that the whole world is furnishing links to current events. If it ain't on X it ain't anywhere.
Olympic boxing was a perfect example.
NYT BBC WAPO all falsified the science, the truth was many fold on X (and on this forum, bet your bottom dollar our people learned from omni X).

This is nonsense.

he just likes people telling him what he wants to hear.

it's a social media site samson. it's fine for getting clips of the olympics in real time, or memes or whatever. every idiot and lunatic on the planet is also on there saying whatever they want. some people have more trouble sifting through that than others.

He's changing the rules on blocking.

At the moment if you block someone you can't see any of their posts anywhere and they can't see any of yours.

From now on you can block someone and not get posts from them or see any of their posts to others but they can still see yours and follow you.

Yes but it hasn't happened yet.

Why though? The block feature is basically uniform across all of social media. How does it make anything better on Twitter?

well i think it's the fundamental difference in understanding of what free speech means on a social media site. old twitter vision was more of an advertiser friendly mall-like experience whereas musk twitter vision is more of a 4chan harassment-like experience.

A lot of Musk's Twitter decisions are based on his personal grievances on the site. He didn't like his flight data showing up on Twitter, so he banned that account. He didn't like people criticizing the things he liked, so likes went private. He doesn't like being locked out of someone's account because they blocked him, so now he's making blocker's accounts visible to the blocked.

Well let’s say “Nazi AF” is trolling you and telling you the Holocaust is a lie made up by the “gloablists” and you decide to block that miserable noise. Well before that would be no fun for Nazi Af because they can’t see now triggered you are in your dealings with others. Now they can see and take screenshots and tell others to troll you. That should keep you busy… and triggered. Don’t forget how much you will be triggered. That’s important.

Who can't?
I know plenty cancelled by Dorsey. They are back!

That... says much about the company that you keep, really.

Also, you're still holding to your seemingly pathological need to crap on Dorsey with poor cause. Under Dorsey, Twitter's moderation was effectively bare bones as it was. That Musk decided to gut that isn't actually some grand thing.

Nor are Musk's various decisions like choosing to moderate "cis" and personally getting involved with banning left-wing accounts. Naturally, you wouldn't care about "them" being silenced, though, as you've demonstrated repeatedly, much like you don't care about Musk changing Twitter so that X actively hides various data, especially after it was shown that the data shows unpleasant truths.

As I've said before, it's fine to be happy that what you consider to be "your side" gained advantage, but lies and dishonesty about what's actually being done aren't healthy.

Women are united against their own, a remarkable entrant in the surprise of the decade contest.

That's quite the strange leap from the facts provided, but I suppose that it's unsurprising that you would jump to a hobby horse of yours, even if it's not really relevant and quite dodges the unpleasant actual implications of the facts provided.

Easy example of an actual potential partial explanation - the proliferation of porn bots on X because Musk sabotaged Twitter's defenses against them is more offensive to women, which leads to them leaving the platform at a rate higher than men have been leaving X.

You just utterly ignored everything like that, though, and jumped straight to women being anti-women. Not exactly trust-inspiring, to say the least.

I joined the Women's Rights Party NZ because they unpack that dismal phenomenon.

...You may claim to avoid conspiracy memes, but you sure seem to be falling for various problematic CTs like the ones you've invoked when it comes to that political party.

It's not particularly easy for new political parties to break into an already well-established political environment, especially when they're trying to sell things that most people don't want as much. An isolated single main issue culture war alone isn't actually the number one concern for most voters (especially in a country where the issue in play isn't actually all that bad in practice), let alone a recently founded Political Party that has little infrastructure, little funding, and nowhere close to as much actual work done to support it as established parties do, before even touching on the actual size of the demographics that it could be expected to be appealing for (a rather sizable portion of the questionably sized strongly anti-trans demographic is decidedly not pro-women, after all). Creating CTs to blame for the issues you face (like getting less than one thousandth of the vote) may be easy, but it's rarely reflective of reality.

It's understandable that X is useful to that party, sure. It's super low cost, after all. Saying things like "X is the savior of women's campaigns in the West" is seriously misleading at best, though. It may technically be true, but that's more like saying that "There's a tree in the forest!" and expecting that to be treated as if it were some profound truth and that that's all there is to say about said forest or even that tree.

To poke at a couple things of some relevance, now that the forums are back -

Half a Million Users Flooded to Twitter Competitor After Elon Musk Handed Creeps the Keys

Right after the changes were announced, BlueSky, a competing platform founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, proclaimed that it had received more than 100,000 new users. Barely twelve hours later, that tally climbed to half a million, the company said Thursday — and it's not showing signs of slowing down.

In fact, the influx of signups grew so feverish that the website temporarily experienced an outage.

Dorsey, for all his faults, has a dramatically better track record when it comes to running social media than Musk does, so that's not really much of a surprise.

Also of note is that

Twitter Under "Free Speech Absolutist" Elon Musk Is Actually Suspending Way More People Than Before

X-formerly-Twitter has just released the first transparency report to come out under its new ownership, which includes internal figures on how it's been enforcing its content moderation policies. And some of the data suggests that its overlord Elon Musk isn't quite the "free speech absolutist" he makes himself out to be.

Musk took over Twitter in the second half of 2022. Since then, suspensions of non-spam accounts have actually increased. In the first six months of this year, the platform has suspended 5.3 million users — which is more than three times as many as the 1.6 million that were suspended in the first half of 2022, Fortune reported.
Not just that, for that matter -
As The Washington Post noted, the site complied with 71 percent of the thousands of legal requests it received to take down posts on its platform in the first half of this year. The highest it had been before that was just over 50 percent in 2021, with most pre-Musk years falling even lower.

Yeah... Actions speak louder than words, and Musk's actual actions just keep showing that "Free Speech" really, really isn't what he's actually championing.

In fact, it would be likely be far more truthful to say that Musk's acquisition of Twitter actually is a move by the hated "global elite." One's that directed at controlling the flow of information as much as they think they can get away with for the moment.
