Kamala Harris Election Campaign

Part of the reasons the US parties don't matter that much anymore is because the individual candidates can raise money so easily on the internet.

Well, I learned something. Not sure how I feel about it, I mean, if I give to Harris, I kind of expect it to go to her, not some guy in Arkansas. I think that's different than if I donate money to the party, in which case, I hope they'd spend it on whatever candidate needs it and where it would do the most good. I wouldn't want them to spend it in some district where the candidate doesn't have a chance or where the other candidate doesn't have a chance.

Candidates raise money for themselves and the party. No one wants the money to be wasted. So you're not alone there.

Al Franken told this story. He first met Tim Walz's at one of Tim Walz's first campaign events. Al Franken and his wife were the only two to show up. Franken and his wife were so impressed that they each donated the maximum amount to his campaign. But Walz's Congressional district had a reputation to be a blood red district. He was thought not to have a chance to win. Franken called Rahm Emanuel who was the head of the DNC multiple times over months telling him that Walz was special. But Rahm told him Walz couldn't win. But Walz stayed close in the polling and eventually the party invested in Walz and he won.

There is a benefit not to just give up on a district because of history. Orange County, California was for decades upon decades as Republican a district as could be. Not any more.

That reminds me: Rahm Emanuel can **** off. He should be rotting in a prison.

The last part of the story is that later in the campaign, when it looked like Walz had a chance, Emanuel did support Walz with about $50k.

That was in my post, I guess I didn't make it clear enough.

It was clear enough, i didn't read closely enough.

That's alright. I have done that a thousand times in this forum.

It is particularly embarrassing when you miss the part in somebody's post which changes the meaning 180 degrees.

We've all done that or something similar. For me, it was my brain fart confusing "offroad parking" and "driveway". The only shame is in not being able to admit when you've screwed up and to just keep digging. You know, like Trump does.

Minor bit of both sides, I do think the GOP has something similar what you describe for the dems. A big part of the GOP base, the part that really loves trump, might hate the old GOP establishment more than they hate dems, or at least its close as to who they hate more.

What makes this interesting is it is the Old GOP establishement that has the big bucks.

The rise of small donations means that doesn't really matter as much anymore.

Not.. really.

People like Vance are the product of Superdonors heavily investing in them over a long time to lift them from nothing to Top Washington Insiders.

Harris needs to really blast Trump over the Arlington Fiasco.

They can surely weaponise that picture of him standing grinning with his thumb up beside the grave of a dead soldier. It gives the lie to the defence that this was a respectful visit rather than just a publicity stunt.

Maybe. But the family of that dead soldier was right there with Trump and seems willing to go to the mat for him.

ETA: By which I mean that the ability to use that against Trump is limited. It motivates people who don't like Trump, but I think most pro-Trump people will give it pass, and the family's participation in the pic will help them to be able to do that.

What about the families of the other soldiers there? One family doesn't speak for all or any of the others.

There's a reason you are not allowed to have a political event at a military cemetery, even if some family members of some of the deceased want you too.

How dare she politicise the visit?
That ',official' is obviously part of the Swamp, trying to score points against Trump, abusing the memory of dead heroes.
Harris Hayes out military.
