I'm not inviting him over for dinner. I'll likely never meet him or any other president. But I know if he's in office my taxes won't go up. I know if he's in office the regulatory state will be reduced. "Joy" is not a policy.
The entire Republican moral philosophy is "I got mine Jack, the rest of you can burn".

Is it just me or does anyone else find Trump flashing a smile and a thumbs up while standing at the grave of a soldier killed 3 years ago at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan with their families just a wee bit ....weird?

It's like the time he held a baby whose parents had just been murdered in the El Paso mass shooting, smiling and with a thumbs up.

Regulations are needed because most people are greedy, selfish bastards when left to their own devices.

It's sad, but it's true. Everyone needs guidelines. And even well meaning people will do things that have negative implications simply because they don't know any better. I can't express just how many times I have thought "give me a break, why does the government have thar stupid rule?" 9 times out if 10, if you dig, you will find they have some very good reasons.

Like this. I read this story this morning.

Ken Paxton, a Trump sycophant who narrowly avoided being removed by his own party last year, is still pursuing the false "voter fraud" nonsense:
Pro-Trump Texas AG orders raids on homes of Democrats over ‘voter fraud’
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is facing counteraction from a voting rights organization after ordering his office to execute search warrants on Democratic candidates and election volunteers for what he claims is part of an “election integrity” investigation.

Last week, Paxton’s Election Integrity Unit raided the homes of several people in Southern Texas, including some residents in their 80s, claiming it was part of a sprawling investigation into allegations of “vote harvesting” and “election fraud” that he says happened during the 2022 election.

Phones, laptops and documents were collected from individuals’ homes, leaving some shaken.

“Paxton is working to suppress the Latino vote using a call for election integrity as a veil for voter intimidation,” Roman Palomares, the president of LULAC said in a press conference on Monday.

The raids, while allegedly part of a two-year-long election integrity investigation, targeted residents like Lydia Martinez, an 87-year-old retired educator living in San Antonio who works in the community to help older residents stay engaged in politics.

Martinez has been a member of LULAC for 35 years and is certified by the state to register voters, Palomares said.

Officers went to Martinez’s home at 6 a.m. last Tuesday with a search warrant, demanding she hand over voter cards that she did not possess, rifling through her belongings and eventually confiscating her laptop and cell phone. Officers interrogated her for three hours.

A similar raid was carried out on the home of Cecilia Castellano, a Democrat running for a Texas House seat.

Castellano said officers provided her with a one-page search warrant that had no specifics on it.

“I was shocked, I’m still shocked,” she told CNN.

Five other individuals, all who worked on Castellano’s campaign, also had their homes raided, according to The Texas Tribune.
Paxton, a Republican Attorney General, has been subject to criticism about the methods he uses to enforce law in Texas.

Last year, Paxton sent letters to hospitals threatening to take legal action if they provided abortion services for Kate Cox, a woman who needed an abortion for medical reasons. She was forced to go out of state to recieve medical care.

Earlier this year, Paxton attempted to shut down a migrant shelter at the Texas-Mexico border, claiming it encouraged migrants to enter the country illegally.

LULAC sent a letter to Kristen Clarke, the assistant attorney general for civil rights, asking that the DoJ investigate Paxton’s actions.

.

And even then, in 2016 Chris Christie was named as the Trump transition chair and he hired a staff and brought in party leaders and then a few weeks after Trump won, the Christie was fired and the whole operation shut down. They started over from scratch, but barely got off the ground by the time he was innagurated. There were high priority transition tasks that were never done.

Basic things like Ambassadors. It took over two years.

Donald Trump stalls on US ambassador to Australia, but many don't mind the wait - ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-26/donald-trump-us-ambassador-to-australia/9910278

Australia actually preferred the professional diplomat in the end in case a crazy turned up one day.

The tariff means your taxes WILL go up. Who do you think gets the Trump tariff? The government. Who levies it? The government. Who pays for it? You do.

Breaking news!

Ex-Democrat Tulsi Gabbard officially endorses Trump

Donald Trump's presidential campaign has received an official endorsement
from Tulsi Gabbard - a former congresswoman who ran to be the Democratic
candidate for the presidency in 2020, before distancing herself from the party.
On Monday, Trump welcomed Ms Gabbard, 43, to a stage in Detroit, in the key
swing state of Michigan.

Trump is slowly building a coalition out of disaffected, and potentially defective, Democrats.
How many more does he need to turn the tide?

All you righties can stop bitching about Harris and Walz not giving any interviews now:

I'm sure you'll all find something else to whine about, though.

It's not like they didn't have anything else to do, like getting a brand new campaign up and running and preparing for the DNC.

Tulsi has been a Democrat In Name Only for some time. Fact is, the Dems defecting to Trump have been pretty much cast out of the party for sometim.e
The ex Dems won't bring many voters with them. I think the atttiude of most Dems toward the likes of Tulsi is Good riddence to bad garbage.
Nothing to see here as far as impact on the election goes.
And it is more hen balanced by Republican officilas who are suportting Harris.

What is the count now?

Staunch Republican politicians now supporting Harris....500+
Former Democrats supporting Trump? 2? 3? 5? RFK Jr, Gabbard. Is Sinema next?

The lefties who dominate this forum are too ignorant to recognize this for what it is: traditional, small-government, libertarianism. They are so stuck in their left-wing bubble that they assume that you can't be sincere about your concerns and must therefore be trolling. I'm guessing they unironically claim about the country being too polarized.

"Joy" is not a policy.

It certainly is not. Nor is pandering to voters with infeasible, populist economic proposals, like price controls on groceries.

Harris's website still does not list a single policy position. She has given us no reason to believe that she is anything but an empty suit.

I believe he's sincere.

Sadly anyone who thinks small government for a complex country with a population of 350 million people in the modern complex world of 2025 is short sighted and naive. The absence of regulatory agencies only opens the door to massive corruption and problems. It's also self centered and foolish not to realize that taxes is what it costs to to have a civilized society.

And it's not traditional. Government has steadily grown since 1789 and as we continue to grow and as the world continues to become more complex, I fully expect it to continue to grow. It has to just to keep up. What I find ridiculous is this absurd idea we can return all the needed regulations to Congress. Have they seen how this Republican Congress did close to nothing the last two years? If there were specific regulations that the regulatory agencies got wrong the Republicans could have created legislation to modify those regulations. They didn't even bother to try. They were too busy going after Hunter Biden.

The idea that the country can return to say the1850s, the 1920s or the 1950s is frankly delusional.

And if he seriously wants small government, why does he want a government that patrols our bedrooms and our bodies?

If you think Trump has any sort of rational policy position on anything, I have a bridge to sell.

Exhibit A. Trump's understanding of and policy of imposing tariffs.

Exhibit B. Trump's promotion of Project 2025 then complete denial of any knowledge of it.

Exhibit C. Trump's lifelong history of scams and other criminal scams. He has used his wealth to avoid any justice.

Exhibit D. The 6th of January. Trump has no regard for law and order. He talks about it all the time but in practice would prefer to bring it all down for his own venality.

You can like his policies or not, but my point is at least he has policies: a 25-point summary of them on his website here, and a 16-page elaboration of then here.

You might not like what's there, but at least there is something there.

Harris has yet to present any policy idea whatsoever on her website. There is nothing there. There is no evidence to date that with Harris there is any there there al all.

And you know what? I'll take nothing over a convicted criminal that attempted a violent coup. One who has declared he would pardon all those turds. A candidate who appointed the SCOTUS judges who overturned Roe v Wade, made the Chevron ruling and then gave the President immunity for criminal actions.

Trump belongs in Prison. Not the White House.

They are not policies. They are not even a Wishlist. They are thought bubbles Trump can repeat with abandon.
