You're whistling past the graveyard. Winning elections is about reaching the undecideds and turnout. Money helps with both.

Trump himself is the the perfect counter to that idea - it was massive fundraising that got him over the line in 2016.

Can you even tell me what his ideology was aside from "build the wall", "lock her up" and "drain the swamp"?

And to be clear I'm not saying that undecided voters don't exist (duh they obviously do) but at this point if you are still undecided I don't know how anyone is supposed to communicate with you or what we're supposed to say at this point.

That's the problem with undecided voters. There's no way to reach a meaningful number of them with any single message.

It wouldn't surprise me. I'd say money makes a bigger difference with them. Advertising works. And it takes money to advertise.

Nope. Trump raised only about half the money that Clinton did.

Instead he got a lot of media coverage. So he didn't really need to raise that much money, which usually pays for said coverage. He got it for free because he was a wacky candidate and much of the media was dedicated to showing how awful he was, which raised his exposure.
 
I think undecided voters are a lot less consequential than unmotivated/lazy voters.

There are millions of Americans who are pretty solidly aligned with one party or the other, but who mostly don't vote. And I think they outnumber the undecideds by a good bit.

Getting those people motivated to show up, or to at least drop off or mail that ballot can make a huge difference. Bigger than trying to get a waffle to land right-side up.

Yep. Free media was his friend in 2016. I don't think it is today. You can only repeat the same crap for so long. It gets old.
 
Yeah but he rode that wave for a LONG time. Trump was basically the #1 news story for one insane reason or another for about 9 years at this point. You can't buy that kind of publicity.

No you can't. Nor would you necessarily want to. In the last 4 years it has been about rape in a Bergdorfs, fraud, fraud and more fraud. Insurrection, obstruction, perjury, espionage bribery and more. Did I mention fraud?

And every day he whines. I think the press will continue to cover him as much as always. But as effective as it was in 2016, I think it is just old now. Maybe it's like a movie or song you heard way too many times.
 
At a certain point you have to accept that every reason you hate Trump is the exact same reason his supporters love him.
 
the windfall in donations is primarily an indicator that Harris/Walz have a much more energized base than Biden had - it does not necessarily translate into more vote.

And it is doubtful how this campaign can spend, what? a billion now?, before November in a more impactful way than they could have spend just the Biden Nest Egg.

Those slogans stood for reducing immigration, ending corruption, and bringing the corrupt to justice. Along with those, but maybe not so sloganable, he also talked about improving the economic situation for the lower/working/middle classes, for whom it has spent decades getting worse.

His opponent was the one whose ads only ever mentioned a policy issue 26% the time, and who, when she did respond to people bringing up the economy or systematic corruption, insisted that everything's fine so nothing needs to be done.
