General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

So get a Twitter account.

I have a twitter account.

That would be how I have been able to provide citations for several of your plagiarized posts.

Not everyone has a twitter/x account, though. Some people are smarter than us. For the benefit of those people I would consider it good practice (if not just good manners) to provide a link to the media you are referencing.

But ymmv, etc.

It's rampant. Lozza Fox. Tice, 30p Lee, various right wing mouthpieces.

The Shoezone was on the news burning. they looted a Greggs and smashed the windows and destroyed a travel agents as well.

Several mobile phone shops looted and smashed up as well.

Spellow Library in North Liverpool has been set alight by rioters.

That shoezone is in Hull. There is also a lengthy vid of Lush being looted. Hardly a brain cell between them. Could be wrong, but the louts that played up in front of police on Ferensway were older than the teenage scum that looted those shops. There was also a fire set in a carpark about half a mile up the road causing smoke to spread over entire area, probably after the louts got dispersed.

Meanwhile Humber Sesh music fest happened without incident.

Is this it or a separate incident?
Kurdish owned garage was the target.

Meanwhile in Manchester a Sainsbury's was looted and in Liverpool a library destroyed.

To protect the kids of course.

Slightly related, but also a bit of a digression.

I finally got around to doing my quick and dirty look at seats vs should-have-seats (assuming a party list system of PR):

GE-2024 by SteveH, on Flickr

There are lots of rounding errors as I only looked at those that got more than 5,000 votes - about a third of the total - and I failed statistics on my degree course . Anyone who wants to do a complete proper statistical anylysis can find the raw data here, the .PDF file.

One thing it does show is that if you can field loads of candidates, ie you have loads of money, you can get enough votes to get several seats. Which would have given Reform UK a LOT more seats, led to a minority government or a very messy alliance and dog knows what knock on effects.

I hope Farage never does a similar 'analysis', do we really want him on the side of PR? :eye-poppi

Just got back from a ride out, as I had a few errands.
The vid in your link is off Springbank (a main road). There was a fire in the middle of the road then, and is now a patch of melted road.
The car park in the vid is also used by a carpet shop, and landlord of Springbank Tavern, who now lost a night's trade and needs new windows for his car.
The BMW in the vid was attacked by a mob. This must have been horrific looking at the vid of it happening (saw it on FB)

Today, I've never seen so many litter pickers.

One caveat being, of course, that many people would vote differently under a different voting system, where their vote has a bigger chance of having an effect.

True, but in which direction?

My gut feeling is away from the two major parties to the LibDems and Greens, with a few going to Reform UK. And maybe one or two to the Monster Raving Loonies.

Cars on fire and shops ransacked on Linthorpe Road in central Middlesbrough. I live in Eston just south of the town centre. I can see the smoke.
The 'protest' started at eh Cenotaph and memorial to Stanley Hollis VC by Albert Park. At least they waited until they moved further down towards the centre before they kicked off. I suppose there were no shops to loot .

'protestors' at the junction of Parliament Road and Linthorpe are stopping cars and checking that the drivers are 'white' before letting them across the junction while the police are busy further down where things are on fire.

*****!

Tory police commissioner blasted for saying right wing protesters 'upholding Brit values'
Conservative politician Donna Jones, the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner, has been blasted for claiming that protesters are out to "uphold British values" after rioting broke out across the UK

Donna Jones, a Conservative Party politician who has been Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner since 2021, has said that protesters are focused on “the desire to protect Britain’s sovereignty, the need to uphold British values and in order to do this stop illegal immigration”.

Ms Jones, who also chairs the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, had said “arresting people” is “treating the symptom and not the cause”. The statement, published on the Hampshire PCC website, now appears to have been deleted.

Targeting the University now. Smashed all the windows and got in to the Students Union building and bar.

Jones will be well chuffed with what one of the Boro rioters, according to The Chronicle, gave as the reason for breaking windows in houses: "Because we're English!"

Good old British values, eh?

I'm starting to feel really embarrassed about being from Hampshire. (I moved)
