Kamala Harris Election Campaign

Whereas I will bask in being right. I used the parallel of NZ Labour replacing an unpopular leader 4 months before the election and pulling off a stunning win as a result.

She will destroy MAGA as a political movement.

I think you're being way too optimistic.

Give it time.

Just think about it - if when Trump gets destroyed by a black woman, the non-MAGA Republicans will finally come to their senses and admit it's not the way forward.

Trump was "destroyed" by an old white, stuttering Democrat in 2020 and MAGA wasn't destroyed by any means. Additionally, the GOP is controlled by the MAGA Republicans right now. Those same "non-MAGA Republicans" could have gotten rid of him during two impeachment votes and only a small handful put country over party and their own personal ambitions by voting "guilty".

MAGA might well be defeated, but not destroyed. It is a long term problem.

The big problem for MAGA is what do they do without Trump? Others I'm sure will try. But that group seems more likely to splinter without him. I mean Vance can't lead them. Or Marjorie Taylor Green or Gaetz or Hawley or. ? ? ?

And Donnie like Joe is not getting any younger.

That's the case in the countries I'm aware of.....
Including Australia, the poster child for mandatory voting. Technically all you have to do is show up. You are under no obligation to make any kind of a mark on the paper you shove into the box.

I too chose not to vote once or twice, back when I was young and stupid.

Anyway, this is not about Australia so I apologise for the derail.

How do I know? Who do you think I am? Her agent?
You remind me of an old joke:

I am Peter, a great builder of bridges. Do they call me Peter the Engineer? No! I wrote symphonies! Do they call me Peter the Composer? No. I brokered peace between warring nations! Do they call me Peter the Diplomat? NO!

But **** just one goat...

MAGA without Trump is just going back to pre-Q: voters desperate not for a Candidate but a Savior. People with a deeply undemocratic mindset looking for someone who tells them that they don't need to change, he will change the world to suit them.
It will never go away

It may take another cycle or two before the GOP realizes they have not built a winning coalition, particularly because Trump (unfortunately) is still more likely to win this election than not. But the reckoning will come eventually.

In AZ, the Republicans have dramatically underperformed since 2018. This is still a pretty conservative state, but the GOP has lost both Senate seats, the Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General races. At some point the party has to recognize that there is a problem, and we have seen some pushback this year. The chorus should get louder if (as current polling suggests) Trump wins the Grand Canyon State while Lake loses again.

I suspect the GOP already know that the Trump Train is on an irreversible downward trajectory, win or lose this time. If he does win, his presidency will become a shambles of graft and corruption. Meanwhile, his Schutzstaffel will attempt by all means possible to ensure this will become a permanent state of affairs in the USA for their ongoing benefit. Trump himself has only one purpose for them: to ensure they keep they paws in the money-pits unhindered. Even if it means they have to kipper Donny's rotting corpse and prop it up on the White House balcony Lenin style as a meaningless MAGA object of unquestioned devotion like he is now.

And if Donny doesn't win, as is seemingly more likely each day, they will abandon him to his inevitable fate without a second thought. They already don't like him at all, personally. They know Trump for what he is, and use him only for what he can do for them. For example, I've read some of Stone's comments about Trump...they're scathing of him recently, even after Stone had his jail sentence commuted.
Trump abandons Stone during the fallout [of Jan-6]. It turns out that a face contorting with rage is not just something that happens in books. In the back of Guldbrandsen’s car, Stone’s face twists and tics as if snakes are rising from his soul. He denounces Trump, says he will support impeachment charges against the “**********” who “surrounded himself with morons … **** you and your abortionist bitch daughter.”

Oddly, one of the mistakes of the founders is not accounting for parties enough. Parliamentary systems do better at that. Though, in an ideal world I agree, it would be better if they were not a thing.

In the English parliamentary tradition the modern party was only beginning to form at the time of the American revolution (and really only entered it's current form with the advent of CS Parnell's Irish Nationalist Party) and it was easy to miss their significance because the English system still depended on bribery to ensure votes in parliament.

Yeah. There's no-one else primed to step up, Trump made sure that the underlings were bickering with each other.
I also don't think anyone else has the "charisma" to keep it all together

This is true. But I hesitate to label whatever Trump has charisma. More like an ability to make some people lose their mind.

Actually I kind of like Vance. Apparently his is being Hilleried for having an opinion. I meant pilloried.

But he lets his wife work destroying her credibility as a competent and respectful mother, the most important thing any woman can be in his world. Or he is a huge hypocrite, but you wouldn't find that endearing would you?

If Trump has "charisma" then the word needs a new definition.
