General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

So, the full shower of **** standing for Tory leader has been decided, with threats of "yellow cards" for saying naughty things about each other.

Barrels all over the country can come out of hiding now.

I'm getting the beers in and settling down to laugh myself daft.

In other news Jeremy Rhyming Slang remains a rhyming slang.

Rishi says

"Over 50 times in the election Labour told the public they had no plans to raise taxes.

Now they’re laying the ground to break their word.

Raising taxes will be the ultimate betrayal of working people and the mandate Labour were elected on. The British people will not forget it."

Except of course that Labour isn't planning to raise taxes on working people, and of course pay rises for the public sector will be spent in the British economy, not salted away in offshore banks like Rishi's chums did with the vast sums he doled out to them.

People seem to really be having a hard time understanding just how bad the economy really is, based on some figures the economy contracted by 18% under the Tories. So something's are going to have to give in the short term. Hopefully a few years down the line the economy will have improved enough that the country can actually afford to be more generous.

Yeah, I'd need a citation for that. If the economy really had contracted by 18%, things would be much much worse.

Not that we aren't in ****, just it is not as deep as an 18% contraction would imply.

It's a bit of a tightrope. More taxes are necessary to save public services and to reduce the deficit, but taxes have a braking effect on the economy. I do not envy the Labour government. They probably have the biggest challenge ahead of them in my lifetime.

The OBR is now launching a review of the “adequacy" of what the Treasury told it before the March Budget.

Because of a small amount of "insider" knowledge for once I do believe the current Chancellor. The message to the treasury staff has been to drill down so "we know everything, warts and all" and "find any money you can". They've only just done that and are now all in on working on the budget based on the new data not the data left by the previous government. And it sounds like the OBR was quite simply lied to.

Lee Anderson says "The BBC had become a safe haven for perverts"

Apparently there should be a judicial enquiry in to sex perverts at the BBC and it should be defunded immediately.

Problme is who do you consider to be the working people?
All too often, Taxes meant to hit the rich end up hitting the Middle Class as well, And a great many people in the Middle class work for a living.

It is very possible to kill the goose that lays the golden age through mistakes in taxation.
