I think they've covered it pretty well already: Indulging in lustful thoughts is bad. Indulging in lustful fantasies about someone else's spouse is bad. Indulging in lustful fantasies about someone other than one's own spouse is bad. Stay chaste and faithful in mind as well as body.

What else is there to say? Are you mad that Jesus neglected to specifically call out the practice of producing or performing in motion pictures for the purpose of inciting lustful fantasies? Are you mad that he didn't properly account for the digitizing of such motion pictures, and transmitting them over an internetwork of computer systems for the purpose of facilitating the indulgence of lustful fantasies?

There is nothing that explicitly mentions porn (no surprise) - but there is 1 Corinthians 6:18-20:
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.

The Jesus verse I previously posted is perhaps the most relevant since it mentions 'lust' and 'looking at a woman'.

Interesting contrast with pure Darwinism where there is zero prohibition of watching porn (obviously) - in fact porn would be a natural outcome...though paradoxically, it may be resulting in less offspring.

In Jesus's defence - if 'lusting after a woman' has got us where we are now then he's got a point....rape simulation...violent sex...and content that looks like child porn.

Just saying.

I'm just saying you've got a bad take on this. I don't have much use for Christianity. I think there's a lot not to like about Poem's arguments. But "the Bible doesn't have much to say to Christians about pornography" is a bad take. I think it says everything it needs to say on the subject. What more do you think is needed?

Part of Poem's argument is that there is a lot of tacit public support for porn, even though there is apparent public support for the idea that porn is a bad thing. Poem gives the example of Christian hypocrisy. Their scriptures tell them porn is bad and should be outlawed (says Poem), but Christian majorities in the West don't actually lobby for anti-porn policies. This kind of hypocrisy in western societies seems pretty fundamental to Poem's discussion.

The Bible is supposedly relevant to Christians. Christian values are relevant to pornography in public policy. But Christians are hypocrites who don't actually follow the Bible when it suits them not to. Thus the notable absence of Christians leading the charge to outlaw pornography in the societies where they are an influential demographic.
 
you are both right, i had misread the arguments. totally my own fault. again my bad on that.

while i agree though christians as a rule ignore the bible when it suits them, i do think calling them out for that is well beyond the scope of the thread. if what jesus says about anything doesn’t matter to them it certainly shouldn’t matter to anyone else.

...although there are, of course, Christian groups lobbying in such a way (for example Exodus Cry).

Spot on...Christians watch porn as avidly as non-Christians.

That is why I mentioned the 2.38 billion who could, if willing, mount a massive push back - potentially altering the outcome of the Miller Test.

Humans are hypocrites who won't follow any set of rules when it doesn't suit them. It's a generic problem, to which there is no actual solution.
