Criminal Charges Against Trump / Trump Indicted / Hush Money Part III

But you are reacting as though MAGA supporters are going to decide the election--they are not. Independents will, and the few in the GOP who were on the fence. This is a big deal.

I hope you are right, but I'm not convinced. Seriously, whether he was convicted or not, they all know what he did (sure, there are MAGAts who deny that he even had sex with Daniels, but no one sane believes that). The question is not whether he did it, but whether someone cares that he did it.

The independents are just as likely to split into the "what crime did he even commit? It's a political witch hunt" crowd and "he's a convicted felon" crowd.

Most of the supporters don't deny that he did it, they just deny that there was anything wrong with it. Wait for the usual suspects coming to tell us that it is business as usual for all politicians to do this stuff, and Trump is no worse than anyone else.

Convicted felon trump cannot vote for himself anymore.

That's not going unnoticed if he does the symbolic vote all canidates do for the camera.

I just love how he is seriously blasting the judge who has complete power to send him to prison without bail right now ROFL

Just found this. I don't know enough about the legal system to know if it's true:

Under New York state law, the maximum prison sentence for a Class E felony is four years in prison. New York imposes a 20-year sentencing cap for this type of offence, with a decision on whether the sentences run concurrently or consecutively left up to the judge.

Given that Trump has no prior criminal record and the crimes are non-violent in nature, it is likely he will face no jail time.

So... he won't go to jail, even if convicted and sentenced? He'll just get to keep babbling about rigged trials and rigged elections? For everyone who wants to be falsely optimistic... what're the odds that he actually gets elected in November?

I'm actually looking forward to whatever garbage he post to TS in the next 12 hours or so. Will he finally cross a line the can not be ignored such as outright calling for harm to the judge, DA and or jury members? Will the conviction be enough to push him over the edge and he forgets to use mob coding in his messages?

I’m looking forward to his Truth Social rants too. Well, not enough to actually subject my precious devices and algorithms to visit the site, but reports of his belligerent incoherence will be gladly appreciated.

He probably won't go to jail, but as I just said he was stupid to blast the judge who sentences him. The odds are slightly lower than they were yesterday, that's all that matters.

And Biden needs to point out the obvious--that this was the weakest and least consequential of the FOUR indictments he faced. The ONLY reason he hasn't;t gone to jail on the others is that Trump was able to delay those trials with the help of stooges like Cannon, So, if as DJT declares "the people will decide Nov 5" the people need to be aware that is this conviction came so easily, how easy would it be in a FAIR system to put DJT in jail for the other 3 indictments?? This win just high lites what a sick criminal T is.

The issue is literally any sane criticism of Trump is exactly why his supporters like him.

No, calling me a Debbie Downer when I'm a realist makes you a PITA.

It's okay to celebrate even small victories, Debbie. Did not the Buddha remark that appreciation of tiny joys is the tzatziki sauce on the PITA that is life? No, he didn't, but nonetheless this has been a good day. I may celebrate with some Greek takeout.

It's not likely that Trump will spend any time in prison because the vast majority of those convicted of a non-violent class E felony in NY don't. Since he has no prior criminal record, it's even more likely he won't see any prison time. However, his attacks on Merchan and calling him 'corrupt' and the trial rigged, etc. is a stupid thing to do since Merchan will determine his sentence. Merchan could take that and Trump's past behavior, including the Carroll civil trial that ended with him being a 'sexual abuser', into account. I think he'll likely get probation and/or a fine. And some will claim that's not a 'consequence' because it doesn't include prison time.

I may be wrong, but my hope is that if Independents etc see that the process worked here, regardless of whether they feel he was deserving of criminal charges, they can be convinced that something like improperly having classified documents that put our nation at great risk is likely to be a slam-dunk case, and so they should realize that a vote for Trump (or against Biden) is basically a vote for someone who is guilty also of far more serious crimes, he just has avoided the consequences for them thus far.

That's a big if.

As much as we talk about independent swinging the election, in general what you find is that the independents break Republican/Democratic pretty much the same as the rest of the country. So if declared democrats/republicans are 55%/45%, what you see is that independents basically go 55/45.

Call me cynical but that's how it usually goes from what I've seen.

to be fair to the downers, you have to admit that it’s not an unfair position to view things that don’t effect his life in any meaningful way as real consequences.

The MAGAts said Trump would never be indicted he would never face trial he would never be convicted.

Well, Trump is now a convicted felon.

How's that taste, MAGAt?

Yeah we also have a rule about you can't order a coup against the election process and then run for President again.
