NZ Politics, the Luxon Era

:dl:

I definitely LOL'd when I saw this: Tauranga, the oldest, whitest and mnost racist city in NZ, is about to vote for Mayor for the first time in 4 years. The previous council was biffed by the minister and a Commissioner appointed.

And what a match-up we have!

Hero Kiwi bloke, multiple world and Olympic champion, Mahe Drysdale, vs a chick with a moko. Who will win?

https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/nati...7bcb0d5c436d8a12dd796c5e6817&ei=18#fullscreen

I'm ringing up Ladbrokes to have $1,000,000,000,000 on Mahe.

In Tauranga, a chick with a moko could run against a potted plant, and the potted plant would be an even chance of winning!

Are yous guys mocking the moko?
I prefer it to the tongue out haka.
But a close run thing.

Nope. I was pointing out how people in Tauranga vote, and going by his post I'm pretty sure Smartcooky was too.

For an English master, you don't understand simple posts very well.

Only English BA, so that should explain it.
Interestingly, the series Life Below Zero showed the arctic equivalent of the moko.
I was puzzled, but not offended the way I am by the burgeoning ubiquity here.
I am not a modern man the way some are.

You don't learn English in English. You learn mostly literature, not language.
To be clear, we did philosophy of language too.
BF Skinner
Noam Chomsky and deep structure, where we learn that grammar is governed by deep structure.
Benobo Apes are close to us, but not confused by deep structure, which governs politics. Politics and morality are seperate matters.

Here is the video of the action for which Liz Gunn now has a conviction for assault.
I had not seen it.

I think Liz Gunn is down a rabbit hole, but we have a fundamental problem lining up the two assaults at Albert Park with this conviction.

Elia Rubashkyn will inevitably be discharged without conviction, as was the man who broke the jaw of the senior lady, with 3 blows.

If you think that is all the video the jury saw, then you are living in the same la-la land of the poster.

Simple fact - she was directed to leave by Airport security - in the security environment we live in today, when AIRPORT security tells you to leave the building, you don't argue, you just leave, and you do so immediately. No arguing, no ifs, no buts, no maybes. If you don't, the police will be called, and they WILL NOT take no for an answer.

In US, they would not have got a second chance - they would have been arrested immediately by Airport security, who are armed, and have the same authority as the Police on Airport Property.

I take at face value the contact with the arm was the basis for the assault conviction, I have no dog in the fight but I do know Liz from when our respective daughters did ballet at about age 10. And she compered a fund raiser at Parnell school brilliantly. As I say I was surprised to see how the rabbit hole grabs people like a black hole. Damn.

Are you sure?

This is cute.

The Gumboot Charity's close links to National have been exposed, right after Gumboot was gifted $24M to carry out counselling services.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/politics/35...s-national-questioned-after-24m-funding-boost

I have been stressing for several years that there is zero evidence that Mike King and Gumboot work in reducing suicides. In fact, the only evidence I can find is that schools which employed King to speak to students actually saw their suicide rates go up slightly.

At a time when many charities get by on a shoe-string, Gumboot being awarded contracts without any evidence is an outrage that is only made worse by their links to the major coalition partner.

This Maori v Pakeha thing is going to be a thorn in National's side.

I'm not sure it will cost them any votes, because I don't vote National, but I am sick and ******* tired of the constant crying from Maori, and even more so when successive governments have given them priority over every other race. I will vote for National in future if Labour looks like caving in to the demands, and things like tomorrow's Budget protest are a perfect case in point - Te Paati Maori is just being dickheads.

I did have a good laugh at the idea of Maori taking a day off work to join the protests.

I am also sick to death of the grievance industry, in which a "certain group" are continually agreeing to settlements, and then trying to come back for more.

That "certain group" I refer to are those I call "The Entitled Māori", a small, core group (a very small minority within Māori it self) who are nothing more than opportunistic "reverse racists" (Hone Harawera, and your abusive scumbag family, I'm looking at you!

These are people who think they are entitled to special status, and their claims are based on hokey, quasi-religious forms of woo woo, such as their gods inhabiting certain parts of the country, and that their people are "spiritually one with the earth, sea and sky" . I find it suspicious that many of these so-called "ancient rights" that have never previously been heard of, only seem to come to light when there might be some money to be made for the privileged few Māori who have direct claims to tribal ties. Non-tribal Māori, often referred to as "Urban Māori" are not entitled to the benefits of these claims. To make a claim, they must be able to genealogically prove a blood-tie to a tribe - that is about as racist as it gets. The fact that Māori have no traditional written language makes it very easy to make stuff up as there are no supporting historical documents to back-up claims.

Now, the vast majority of Māori are just ordinary Kiwis like the rest of us, who want to get on with life, play for and support their sports teams, get married, raise their kids, work for a living and do everything that everyone else does.) Without exception, all of the Māori kids I grew up with, as well as those who have ended up being workmates over the years utterly cringe when "The Entitled Māori" make spurious claims and demands, mostly because it reflects badly on them, but also because some of the demands, claims and expectations are just ludicrous.

Of course, there will inevitable be those who will think my stance is racist, but it isn't, its simply facts gleaned from observation.
