Merged Protests disrupt college campuses / Campus Protests

I wasn't talking about being successful, I was talking about being acknowledged to be morally right, historically.
I know, I said you're likely to notice the successful ones, and those are also the ones that tend to be right. You don't notice all the stupid failed ideas, because they failed.

Anti-segregation, anti-War (in particular Vietnam), anti-racism, anti-apartheid versions of Occupy, pro-LGBTQ, etc. etc.
You are counting the hits. What about the misses? Have you tallied them up as well in order to compare the number of student protests that you think were justified with those that weren't?

TLDR: Confirmation bias.

You can flip this around, easily: only the ones that were big enough to be noticed turned out to be for a righteous cause. If we didn't notice them, they didn't have much staying power and not much influence: a lot of Astroturf campaigns would go into that category.

We are not counting the number of protests (which would be technically infinite), but the ones that managed to get into and stay in the national news.
And the ones we remember were clearly on the right side of history.

The current protests have modelled themselves after the anti-Apartheid protests.

Yeah and unfortunately for them the situation in the middle east is a lot less black and white than it was in South Africa. Instead of looking at South Africa they should be looking at the conflicts in the Balkans because this isn't an instance of one-sided oppression.

What? How could the number of protests be infinite? Of course it's not infinite. If you mean "too large to count" I can accept that.

I can accept this as a reasonable criterion. So have you tallied up all the student protests that managed to get into the national news, and sorted them according to virtue?

And the ones we remember were clearly on the right side of history.

I don't see why we should assume that we remember all the protests that were large enough to get into the national news. I certainly don't think I know all of them.

Look, I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out that something like your thesis is actually correct. Not 100%, but that student protests have tended to be "on the right side of history" more often than not, at least as you and I would define that. But it's not obviously true and if you want to make an argument based on it, you should actually look at the data to see if its true.

I'm pretty sure the anti-apartheid protestors didn't break into the college library and vandalize the **** out of it, which is what's happening in my city. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages to equipment and fixtures. Computer equipment stolen or destroyed. They vandalized the city's only community computer resource center set up for accessibility.

This protest hasn't modeled itself after anything. It's not even a cargo cult anymore. At least a cargo cult believes (mistakenly) that going the outward motions is the same as effecting the real changes those motions are supposed to signify.

This protest is just angry children looking for an excuse to indulge their anti-social urges.

You seem to be very incorrect. Evidence ahows the campus protest movements for civil rights, against the Vietnam War against Apartheid often got messy.

Doesn't make those causes any less just.

Just be sure to tunr you watch back to the Middle Ages when you land in Iran............
I never ceased to be amazed at the wierd alliance between Left wing radicals and Muslim fundemantlists.

Simple - both hate successful capitalist cultures.

Doesn't amaze me in the least.

Nothing in that article describes the degree of wanton and unnecessary destruction we're seeing on the PSU campus today. These people didn't justpeacefully occupy the library and then clash with the police sent to evict them. They entered the library and trashed it for no good reason.

Says you. Got any evidence that they trashed the library?

At least there is plenty to laugh for most everyone. I heard the flag defenders described as, you wouldn't have gotten something more spot on if you asked AI to create a photo of a bunch of rich frat boys defending the flag to the woman asking for her meal plan in the occupied building who is apparently getting her PhD in marxist poetry. Like I always say, lean in to your stereotypes when ever possible.

It's downright bizarre that protests need to be not only non-violent, but also 100% with no damage to property.

This is a criterion specifically designed to make sure that you can ignore the protest no matter what, because if it follows the rules you don't have to act and if they break them, you can use the cops to sort it out.

A legitimate protest can absolutely cause property damage - just not bodily harm.

Nobody here is calling for 100% no damage to property. You're just trying to excuse wanton destruction and nonsense vandalism.

That's some pathology. As long as you think your cause is just, you can break stuff. Does this apply to people with viewpoints you oppose?

You know why I am right?

property damage can be fixed with a check.

But, of course, since Rittenhouse, Republicans have made it clear that they think a life is worth much less than minor property value.

So you just get to break someone else's stuff because you're more virtuous? Can I break your stuff? And you certainly know that few if any of the "protesters" will be held to pay for the damaged they made. Lunacy.
