"I am resigning from the Tory party and crossing the floor. Only Labour wants to restore our NHS"
Dan Poulter is a former health minister.

:eek::eek::eek:

Tory staff running network of anti-Ulez Facebook groups riddled with racism and abuse.

The Graundian

"Rachel Cromie, an administrator of all 36 groups, is a Tory councillor in Haywards Heath, Sussex. "

Shocking stuff.

He's mentioned in the Whips' dossier that I mentioned WRT Wragg.

Give the poor lad a break! It's only taken him 14 years to spot that the Tories are ******* up the NHS, which is better than many of his party and their supporters...

ETA Mind, if they hadn't done the ******* up then he couldn't crow about wanting to restore it, could he? So that must mean something...

Interestingly he's already announced that he's standing down at the next election. Cynically, maybe he wants to be on friendly terms with the new government when he's selling his soul to the private sector, less cynically, maybe he's developed a conscience on his way out. (Yeah, I know, it's the first one)

What a surprise, it looks like Infosys are getting the sick note contract.

Well, the £35 billion NHS IT contract.

Thanks to loopholes in the Parliamentary system of declaring interest, it seems to be all right for politicians to profit, as long as it is through their spouse. For example, Baroness Mone's VERY multimillion pound lucrative PPE deal via her husband Barrowman and Sunak via his wife. Then we had Jockey Club bod 'Dido' Harding profiting hugely - albeit not unlawfully - via the track and trace disaster and Matt Hancock getting a PPE contract through his sister's firm.

It is pretty shocking as none of these people have been successful in spending taxpayer money wisely.

Just in time to give the tories a boost in thursday's local elections, the roundups of potential Rwanda exportees will begin on monday.

The Guardian: Home Office to detain asylum seekers across UK in shock Rwanda operation

It's disgusting. It's like a repeat of Hitler's Final Solution all over again. Using vulnerable people like objects as political pawns. So whilst everybody has their binoculars focused on where Farage wants them focussed (why does this man still have so much influence on UK politics; wheeled out on every occasion as Mr. Nice Guy down the pub grinning broadly like everyman's uncle?) on a few boats which could easily be dealt with by humane means, the social and economic fabric crumbles whilst people struggle with the cost of living and kids in their 30's still at home.

And it appears the influx of Refugees into the Republic of Ireland is nothing to do with small boats:

Harris: Ireland 'won't provide migration loophole'

Mr Harris has asked Justice Minister Helen McEntee to bring legislation to cabinet on Tuesday to enable asylum seekers to be sent back to the UK.

However, a UK government source said the UK “won’t accept any asylum returns from the EU via Ireland" until the EU changes its policies.

Earlier this week, Ms McEntee, who is due to meet Home Secretary James Cleverly on Monday, told a parliamentary committee that 80% of recent asylum seekers arriving in the Republic of Ireland came across the border from Northern Ireland.

So basically it seems the British government is dumping these refugees off on the Irish.

So basically it seems the British government is dumping these refugees off on the Irish.

The problem is they come from the EU (France) to the UK and currently the UK is not returning the Refugees /Asylum seekers to the EU (France) on the basis that they are coming from a safe country. If the EU (Ireland) now tries to change the current practice and sends asylum seekers from the EU (Ireland) to the UK on the basis they originated from the UK then the UK could adopt the same practice and return them back to the EU (France).

It is a foolish policy by Ireland, how are they going to enforce it? The border is open, so anyone returned from Ireland to NI could just cross the border again.

No. They are not being sent to extermination camps. Not even to slave labour camps.

How has Sunak's wife profited? Non-dom tax exemption was introduced in 1799. So not an act of the present government.

Please ignore the performative nonsense posted to the thread and stick to critiquing the performative nonsense of the Conservative Party.

This is a thread on UK politics. Not one on the conservative party.

Meanwhile in Scotland Hamza Yusuf has self destructed by ending (inexplicably) the Bute House Agreement which produced the formal SNP / Green coalition government in Scotland. He seemed to have decided this out of pique with no get out plan. The likeliest outcome is a collapse of the Scottish government which willed to a general election. (because of fixed term rules this will not delay the planned May 2026 election).

It is difficult to see the SNP doing well in any election at the moment; there are serious questions about their competence. The leadership has been closely associated with potential criminals.

But the Greens also have their own internal issues.

The Greens might accept to support the SNP with a new leader, probably someone even more mediocre than the current leader.

I know the Tories like to pretend that the current mess is nothing to do with them, but the Conservative Party has formed the UK government for the last 14 years.

On the contrary, the decision to end the BHA was understandable given the imminent Green vote and Harvie's refusal to compromise on legislation such as Heat in Buildings which was proving widely unpopular. I think it was unwise, but it wasn't the bolt from the blue you suggest.

YouGov polling has ScotLab only slightly ahead, which would mean that they too would have to form a coalition - but with him? Are they willing to get into bed with the Tories? The Greens claim to be pro Independence so that's presumably out.

It's very fluid situation. I think the First Minister will be gone imminently and the replacement will pour, or attempt to pour, oil on troubled waters.

Being reported across lots of media that he is going to resign rather than being pushed out. It will still leave a confidence vote in the Scottish government.
