None of the watchdogs are fit for purpose*. The Tory plan is to deregulate, promising oversight, but then to declaw, defund, and stuff the watchdogs with cronies.

*As defined by me, YMMV

As you say "as defined by me" but remember what they were designed to do was to not frighten the horses, sorry the city. If the city had thought they'd be strictly constrained and forced to maintain standards they wouldn't have bought the money printing machine the national assets no matter how undervalued they were initially offered for. And with Ofcom it was never meant to interfere with the right side of the political spectrum just keep those lefties at Channel 4 under control.

Labour pledges to renationalise most rail services within five years
Labour says it expects to renationalise most passenger rail services within five years, if it is elected.

The party says it will meet the pledge by bringing passenger services into public control as the contracts expire - but there will still be a role for the private sector.

Automatic refunds for train delays and improved internet connections are among a series of other railway pledges.

Rail Minister Huw Merriman said the plans were "pointless" and "unfunded".

The power-sharing coalition in Scotland between the SNP and the Greens has broken down.

Reportedly in a 'jump-before-you're-pushed' move, the SNP have decided to scrap the Bute House agreement and form a minority government.

Still a live evolving story

Wonder how this will play into the general election. Has there been any recent polls looking at voters' intentions in Scotland recently? Could see any with a very quick search.

Speaking as an SNP member, there's been a concern that the tail has been wagging the proverbial canine in terms of more hardline policies such as gender politics and heat in buildings legislation. These tend to be unpopular with both the party and the wider electorate. It may thus be seen as a good thing.

The next Scottish national elections are in 2026, IIRC, so the SNP are probably playing a longer game. The leadership will be less concerned about Westminster than they are about how to run a minority government (again).

I would imagine that Harvie will have to quit, and perhaps Slater. It'll be interesting to see if the First Minister goes in due course too, perhaps making way for Kate Forbes.

Reform UK deputy leader Ben Habib, on the TV said Britain should ‘absolutely’ let migrants drown in the Channel and suffer the consequences of their actions.

Lawrence Fox has been ordered to pay €210k in libel damages.

Yes he's whining about it.

It's a bullies charter. They can call him a racist* but he's not able to accuse them of being paedophiles

*Based on what he's said

I think the gif of Sergeant Major Williams broke the record for the most posted meme today.

I can't believe there are any still left! After the SNP chief executive 'allegedly' stole funds donated for an independence campaign, after the failed bottle return fiasco, the calmac ferries fiasco, the disaster of education, the first minister apparently marrying into a drug dealing family who are associated with defenestration, aboliition of trial by jury and when you have a jury trial conviction on a 8:4 majority.

I have been struck by all the moans about Westminster governance with no one from England apparently being aware of the cess pit of SNP government.

Can anyone tell me if Rwanda and the Republic of Congo are different countries, please?

Just because I misheard what Chris Phillips asked.

To be fair I thought he didn't really understand the scenario being explained and/or how the Government Rwanda policy would guarantee safety in the circumstances that his mouth started moving before knowing what to say.

That said seems the government policy doesn't guarantee safety and would sent people fighting against Rwanda to Rwanda to claim asylum.

You are using the old definition of safety, not the new definition. For example, it's safe for children to play in a field with live land mines.

If they claim it isn't safe they can be arrested under the Rwanda is Perfectly Safe, Honest Act 2024 and deported to Rwanda.
