Racist Countryside Art

Rather than starting a new thread I'll pop this in here:

From the DT - seems to be on a run:

Not this one really pisses me off, for a couple of reasons, 1) the major one - it's simply factually wrong 2) what the hell does a phrase like that have in any official guide?

Have you actually listened to the guide? How can you be sure those quotes are accurate? Maybe hold of on having an opinion just yet...

Well, that and the OP article are both by the same Telegraph journalist, so that’s not a bad suggestion on the face of it. :p

Royal Museums Greenwich, which receives government grants, has said that the guide was intended to be light-hearted.

A spokesman for the museum said: “The Fierce Royals pieces were performed in the Queen’s House, delivered by a number of performance artists, during LGBTQ+ History Month and part of an evening of light-hearted entertainment, and later added to our website for the enjoyment of those who could not come on the night.

“As part of the Fierce Queens event that the tour is based on, we had a black performer playing Queen Charlotte, which is why this segment was included in the tour.

“It was not written by or performed by members of RMG staff and as a performance piece, was not ‘fact checked’.”

However, this Museum is not defending it as gospel truth. It’s meant to be a bit of fun, but oh, no, museums aren’t allowed to be fun, or serious, apparently.

Yes, they made a wrong, or exaggerated statement about Queen Charlotte. It’s the end of the world.

Ahhh, the figurehead of Queen Charlotte, the nation’s first royal person of colour. Yep, you heard me. The insecure white boys writing history conveniently forget to mention that bit, because… well, structural racism. As you gaze upon the glorious golden bust, I feel compelled to inform all of you that the exposed breasts you see on these figureheads are not immodest or rude. No no! Back in The Past ™, boobs were believed to calm storms. Magic boobs! So, you know, next time it threatens to rain, why not give the sky a flash and see if it works”

Oh no, they say boobs are magic too!

UK more nostalgic for empire than other ex-colonial powers
A third of people in the UK believe Britain’s colonies were better off for being part of an empire, a higher proportion than in any of the other major colonial powers, a global survey has revealed.

Britons are also more likely to say they would like their country to still have an empire than people in France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany or Japan, the YouGov polling found.

More something to be proud of 32% Neither something to be proud nor ashamed of 37%More something to be ashamed of 19%
Don’t know 12%
So that's 69% of Britons who don't think colonization was bad.

A shocking 39% of 'Leave' voters think that Britain should still have an empire today. No doubt these people think the idea that a painting could invoke dark nationalist feelings is hogwash - while they yearn for a time when dark nationalist feelings were 'normal'.

The OP was a report in the Telegraph on a piece from the Weekend Guardian, for whom the idea of accusing the English of harbouring nationalistic thought is second nature. I expect Darat to find the signage exactly as reported, when and if he ever gets there. As to the report about the Greenwich Museum -

Oh look, a transcript. So the Telegraph was dead accurate - and what do we hear, basically a piss take of straight whites. Cool, very humourous or whatever. Should it be part of a taxpayer funded exhibition? No more than a piss take of LBGT+ and coloured people should be. But thats racism, for you, fine against straight whites, verboten against any one else.

"BUTBUTBUT history!!!111 They oppressed us!!!"

There's a saying about two wrongs not making a right, but then vengeance never took a great deal of notice of logic.

You may be right, but in my experience museums use full sentences and string them together in paragraphs. But no need to rely on Darat, get over there and check it out for yourself. You seem to have great interest in the art museum world.

Darat's a lot closer.

That doesn't sound like a bit of fun. That sounds like anti-social woo.

Meh, what's the harm in a little casual racism? I like the bit about they describe the rich guy who likes to bang a bunch of hot chicks (Charles11) as progressive. No doubt they were trying to reference polyamory however "grab 'em by the pussy" is an equally valid assessment.

Casual racism is a good example of harmful magical thinking.

This is true. Call basically everything racist and nobody will listen when you call out actual racism. Especially the more subtle versions.

Its one of my hobby horses. As Orwell sed in 48, fascism just means something I don't like, same with Woke, CRT, commie, marxist, racists, white supremacy..........

Those phrases used to have value but not really anymore.

Thanks to the tactics of the right.

You're either being deeply sarcastic, or you have little understanding of the depth of the loathing of Britain and its history felt by the progressives, particularly within academia.

Not the progressives, just those whose ancestors had to live under the English boot.
