Soz, hopeless at names! If I recall correctly, the fire fighter in your scenario remained anonymous*, which rather tends to support my claim of staff being expected to uphold contractual confidentiality issues. As for the Official Secrets Act it has been established that not everybody signs it, as I had thought re the Civil Service and associated public bodies such as the police and fire brigade.
*Extract:
That fails to confirm your statement that a firefighter stated that "the fire looked like an EV fire". It's specifically said that they couldn't get close enough to see.
First, no one has said EV batteries don't burn. That would be as silly as saying that welding metal doesn't involve melting it, or that diesel is so hard to ignite that it should be dismissed as a possibility.
Second, don't you find it curious that he is reported to have said, "EV tanks", rather than "batteries"? Could it be that he was referring to the fuel tanks of hybrid vehicles? As has already been pointed out to you, even a full EV Li-ion battery contains considerably less stored energy than a full average size gasoline tank. And it's not like the unnamed firefighter singled out "EV tanks", even if he meant batteries, as anything more remarkable than fuel tanks and bursting tires. Why didn't he give Li-ion batteries any greater remark if they're as nuclear meltdown dangerous as your trying to argue? Why not, "loud bangs would be fuel tanks and tires, while the thunderous, earth-shaking blasts accompanied by flashes so bright they burn people into the walls as shadows would be EV batteries"?
