Cont: General UK Politics V Suella Strikes Back

The NYT has described life under the Tories with Dicken's phrase "nasty, brutish & short", ironically that's also the name of Braverman, Gullis & Sunak's Greenday tribute act for the Party Conference.

The philospher Hobbes said that first in the 1600's, Dickens was quoting him.

Why its almost like all they care about is money.

No kidding.
But to be fair, knighthoods to people as rewards for political support is something every party in power in the UK does.
I , as a non UK citizen, despise the Tories and would vote Labor , but my basic cyncism about politics keep me jfrom pretending that the other parties don't have their flaws and play their games.
Only kNighthood I cared about this Honor's list was Christopher Nolan's which is well deserved.

That's been on the cards for years. The moderates are decamping to Alliance, the unionist centre to the UUP or PUP, depending on degree of social/fiscal liberalism and the Paisleyites to the TUV.

That the Catholic Church has lost it's power in the Repuoblic has taken away one of the Unionist main arguments against a united Ireland. Bakc ine days when the Catholic church has a lot of power in the Republic, they actually had a good point in their belief that the Chruch controlled the South. And I say this as an Irish American (German Irish actually...just liike Tom Hagen) who was taised a Catholic.

Only a knighthood for this £5M donation

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-tories-knighthood?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

Labour has previously called for the Tories to hand back £5m donated last year by Mansour, who served as transport minister in Egypt under military ruler Hosni Mubarak’s regime in 2005 to 2009 before the Arab spring.

The opposition called for Sunak to return the donation last year after it emerged one of Mansour’s family companies had still been operating in Russia after the invasion of Ukraine

Another traitor

ETA.

The more I see, the more I think that the problem many on the right have with Putin is a matter of style. But a kleptocratic state run by the ultra wealthy id fine

To be honest, knighthoods are pretty irrelevant from a practical point of view, they're important to people who think they're important but that's it. Peerages are another matter though as they allow direct influence on lawmaking.

I know it got cut along with the trans stuff but I'd like to ask Samson again because it is on topic, what is your evidence Humza Yousaf is an islamist and not simply a Muslim?

Mrs Don and I got our polling cards through for the local elections. We now have to bring ID to vote.

The Tories will successfully disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of people who are less likely to vote for them in order to fix a non-existent problem (large scale voter fraud)

Turns out Samson's post making that claim survived the cull - it is here (post #1716).

Samson has been asked repeatedly to back up/justify/provide evidence for their claim. They have not done so.

I believe Mojo hit the nail on the head.
