Racist Countryside Art

Are we really going to do <group facing prejudice> isn't a race so it isn't technically racism?

This is the "Warning: looking at nice paintings may make cause xenophobia" thread, not the categorization of hatreds thread.

Well, if it actually happened, some might feel constrained to admit that progressives are being stupid and wrong in this case. So what we're doing is basically Zeno's Quibbling Over Technicalities.

It's your scenario. You're the one who posited that they went straight from "this might be problematic" to putting up a sign saying it is problematic, as if that were some sort of reasonable thing to do.

Why do you ask? Do you think they actually did the research? Do you think there's a paper published in a scholarly journal somewhere, showing that landscapes are problematic in the way described?
Do you think that's something that normal people routinely do before making decisions?

Not mind control, just ham-fisted and half-assed attempts at propaganda.
Propaganda. What is propaganda but the attempt to control what other people think?

You know, bog-standard progressive sociopolitical woo.
You know, you could just use "woke" as a shorthand. It's much shorter and easier to type. We all know what you mean.

Yes, we are. The op was specifically about a show of landscape paintings. the question asked was were landscape paintings of the UK actually instilling pride in country for UK citizens and was that pride translating into nationalistic fervour.

For those who see racism in every aspect of life on this planet, the question is obviously moot. They are in a minority. Tough on them.
Sad thing is that kind of silliness actually helps the actual, real racists.

This is true. Call basically everything racist and nobody will listen when you call out actual racism. Especially the more subtle versions.

Its one of my hobby horses. As Orwell sed in 48, fascism just means something I don't like, same with Woke, CRT, commie, marxist, racists, white supremacy..........

Those phrases used to have value but not really anymore.

Quick note - was meant to be going there today but I'd forgotten it was school holidays so in the interest of crime prevention my other half has suggested we reschedule for next Friday.

Nice of you to hold off on appreciating your xenophobic inspiration during the Easter Celebration. Christmas too, if you dont mind. You do have the rest of the year.

Good thinking.

I wonder how Darat got on at the exhibition?

The Easter school holidays down here are different from my days, how dare the word change in muffle decades, so until yesterday it is still school holidays around here. So we’ve now pushed it to next Friday! (We used to have the week containing Good Friday off and then the following week - around here they break-up on the Thursday before Good Friday and then have two weeks off.)

I don't wish to cause alarm but hordes of noisy screaming schoolchildren are most likely to appear during term time as part of school outings. Nowhere is safe from the sudden shattering of peace of such parties.

Ah, probably due to an early Easter. They did the same around here, but in Wiltshire the holiday was either side of Easter, so I assumed you'd checked and found Cambridge was like Wiltshire.

Still wondering, where is the data on the number of hate crimes that have happened as a result of people looking at these racist evil horrific dangerous depictions of grass and flowers?

Not still wondering, just plain wondering why anyone would have such figures or even think such figures would be available.

Exactly. The claims made in the article in the OP is nothing but ignorant, ridiculous speculation. There is no evidence that European landscape art is a problem or inspires hate or bigotry in anyone.

What theprestige would no doubt term sociopolitical woo.
