All Hail Taylor Swift, Person of the Year!

Just between us, could these flare-ups have anything to do with roids? I don’t follow this sport at all so have no idea how much of a continuing problem steroids are, but my heuristic is that most sports have more steroid use than is usually acknowledged except for some sports where the authorities have been extremely proactive such as athletics or cycling. I mean, look at the size of some of those players. If they were American wrestlers or strongmen or powerlifters in untested comps no one would seriously doubt their use. In fact, I’m calling it now, they’re ALL on drugs!

At least it's a level playing field then.

I'm seeing a few instances where Kelce has flown off the handle. Perhaps when he gets heated, he gets heated, but I guarantee if someone were to go through and look for instances of him letting **** go, there would be many as well. Like him getting stepped on, or pushed, or hit late, or punched while someone is trying to strip the ball and he shrugs it off.

It's easy to find situations where professional athletes that are filmed for every game get mad. Kelce hasn't been arrested for being aggressive, and outside of yelling, I don't really get the big deal. He'll probably get a fine, but I doubt he'd get suspended.

I think people here are blowing this a little out of proportion. Hell, baseball coaches have better freak outs than this on a regular. Seems like a sensitive bunch around here.

More on the academic discipline of Swiftography:

Why Taylor Swift is having a pop-cultural moment ahead of arriving in Australia for the Eras Tour

In the 17 years since her debut album, Taylor Swift has gone on to dominate not only the music world but the cultural conversation.

As the megastar prepares to grace Australian stages later this week, it seems Swifties are everywhere, from the schoolyard to scholarly symposiums.

So why is the world so obsessed with Tay-Tay, and do we need to take Swifties more seriously?..

...and this thread has shown me several of the other great things she does for the people that work for her, and the towns she visits.
It's called Swiftenomics.

It would be if all drugs were permitted, I suppose. But that isn't the case, and so drug-taking in sport selects for those who are willing to cheat, and also for those best at masking their use. Of course, this is a big tangent so I think we don't need to continue with it here.

That's fair. I don't really care much about the topic. I just thought I would inject a little libel into the proceedings. :)

I'd be very surprised. The NFL has a pretty robust drug-testing program.

Nope, just being used to sport where that kind of thing never happens. As I've said, a rugby player would be dropped for that kind of behaviour. I'm used to sports players being made to adhere to standards and I've never watched a game of baseball in my life.

It might just be a cultural difference, just like America's love affair with guns that doesn't exist here.

Window dressing, in my humble opinion. Almost all the players are juiced, I expect.

NFL will of course have some kind of policy on drug testing but many of the players have ridiculous physiques.

Now this may not be the best evidence but Reddit forums of NFL fans sometimes seem to get asked questions like “hey, I’ve just started watching American football and I’m from Europe. Are you sure theses guys are natty?”

Almost 100% of answers is “of course not! They are all juicing. They either will get the heads up or they use human growth hormone. No way could they recover quickly enough between games or bulk up to that level with so little body fat unless they were on drugs.”

Now maybe they are just ignorant, but it seems to me that fans of NFL essentially just accept that the players are all on drugs. I mean it would be like wondering if maybe the wrestlers are taking drugs. Answer: yes of course!

Look at this…
Tom Brady walked out of a press conference on Saturday after being asked about the link between his personal trainer and wide receiver Julian Edelman, who has been slapped with a four-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs.

“slapped” with a … wait for it …. FOUR game suspension for taking PEDs!

What an absolute joke!

They are clearly all on drugs. Including Tom Brady. This is obvious if all that supposed drugs testing only results in a minor slap on the wrist.

Nah. If it was really common there would've been whistleblowers by now. Some guy who doesn't juice and gets cut from the team... he'd spill the beans. Bit like the Astros sign stealing. Why would a guy who gets cut or traded keep it a secret?

There is nobody not juicing. Or so few that the chances of them blowing the whistle are low.

Besides there is barely any punishment for it. Baseball and cycling were rife with drug-taking.

What happens if someone gets the whistle blown? They have to go to some meeting where they are told they shouldn’t do PEDs.

What does it mean to violate the PED policy?

When a player, coach, trainer, or agent tests positive for steroids or any other PED, the violator is met with one of a few consequences.

For first-time offenders, the athlete has to go through the NFL's drug program.

A second-time violator is fined for two games, a third time warrants a four-game fine.

After the third time, the punishment heads towards suspension.

A fourth-time offender is suspended for four games.

If an athlete or football professional is caught for the fifth time, they are suspended for 10 games.

Meanwhile, an athletic official who breaks the PED a sixth time is met with suspension for up to an entire year.

Five or six times violations?!? What sport allows such a thing and has stipulated rules about the sixth time someone is caught doing PEDs?

Every day!!! Jeez!! Yeah, that could well be a marathon a day for six months, which is insane. Drugs it is then. :covereyes

A fair bit of it was walking on the treadmill, it's not constant running.

I was able to do pretty much that level of exercise for a couple of years several years ago without drugs. I was doing around 3 hours a day of walking and running.
