I've been of the opinion that even if he was telling the truth, he's still a murderer because he's an idiot. He was trying to kill someone, for sure, even under his own story.

But I don't think he was telling the truth (it's hard to believe that he was actually so stupid) and that link of yours says nothing about "phone records". There was no intruder in the house, and no conceivable reason for him to imagine that there was.

Yep, his defense was, "I'm a paranoid lunatic that shoots into a bathroom because I heard a noise!" In his own words he was trying to kill someone who he had no idea who they were when anyone should have known it was his girlfriend.

I suspect he would characterize them as warning shots, or "get out the way you came", in which he presumed was the ladder the tradies left. It is a little tedious to continually call him a murderer in the manner of a point blank range shooter.

Nonsense. She was in the toilet cubicle, which was part of the bathroom. There was room for max 2 people in that cubicle, 1 sitting and 1 standing. The occupant was damn hard to miss.

Being "trigger happy" is the difference between a responsible gun owner and a cowardly whack job, who deserves to be convicted of murder.

I've owned and been around guns most of my life, and blaming adrenaline or being trigger happy is simply not an option. If you only have the discipline and self-control of a goldfish, you have no business with firearms.

Eta: my wife said shortly after we got married that I shouldn't have guns around the house because she would likely shoot me sooner or later. I believed she was correct and soon relieved myself of them.
