Danish Embassy burned down in Syria

That'll teach those dirty pot smokers not to allow the freedom of speech! Way to keep your cool Syria!

This reminds me why they banned "yo mamma" jokes when I was a kid. Someone always takes it too far and starts burning things down.

Of course, this (just like every other act of terror and violence by Muslims in the world, naturally) is just an action by a tiny minority of extremists who clearly do not represent Islam, the religion of peace.

And they were provoked by the racist Muslim-bashing cartoonists, so how else did you expect them to react?

All I can say is, paraphrasing Candide, if this is the religion of peace, can you imagine how lucky we are Islam isn't a religion of war?

The Norwegian embassy, 5 kilometers from the Danish one, has also been torched.

I guess they weren't taught "sticks and stones may break my bones" or "I'm rubber, you're glue" when they were kids.

With a cartoon of their own?

You surely realize I was being sarcastic, but seriously:

They already did that. The Arab press is FULL of antisemitic, anti-European, anti-USA, etc., etc., etc., cartoons every day, and has been for--well, decades, at least.

But they're allowed to do that, because they're only insulting infidels. When infidels insult Muslims, that's a totally different issue, and completely intolerable.

The Muslim Council of Great Britain says the government should prevent the press from publishing cartoons of Mohammed.
___

The Ambassador reiterated his government’s contrition over the matter but noted they were unable to apologise on behalf of the newspaper involved. He welcomed a suggestion from the MCB to consider measures to prevent the publication of such offensive material in future.

I knew you were being sarcastic; so was I.

That fact is, that as this sort of behavior mounts in the Muslim world, I am becoming more and more---well, not racist, but culturalist if you like. The West if far from perfect, but at least this sort of senseless violence is generally frowned upon rather than actively encouraged and rewarded.

Respecting someone's religion does NOT mean condoning stupidity.

Agreed.

Oh those silly Muslims.
racist.

I mean, religious-ist.

whatever.

Y'all need to stop looking at stuff like "facts" and join hands and sing "We are the world" a lot more. We're all the same and attempts to rationalize otherwise proves you're a bigot. Period. tsk tsk tsk

I've never been a racist. But I've always been a "culturalist". Not all cultures are of equal value. And of all the major cultures in the world today, fundamentalist Islam is, frankly, the worst. I will tolerate it, but I will not accept it. It is within my rights to get pissed off when I see some Muslim that frequents the local grocery store with his wife, and she is always covered heard to toe in a burqa. Here in the US. Sorry, but that is wrong. It is inferior to our culture of freedom and equality.

Not everything is equal. Not all systems of government are equal. Not all cultures are equal. Not all societies are equal. I see nothing wrong with saying "Yes, for this long list of reasons, this culture is better than that one." It doesn't make you bigoted and hateful. It makes you a thinker, who has not succomed to the extremes of politically correct total relativism.

:D

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
Personally I prefer Kumbya but in this case I'll make an exception.

I guess they weren't taught "sticks and stones may break my bones"

I think they probably were.
"Well I was bullied at school, called all kinds of different names. But one day I turned to my bullies and said 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me', and it worked! From there on it was sticks and stones all the way."

One of the demonstrators said that?

"The Vatican says the right to freedom of expression does not imply the right to offend religious beliefs."

Let's talk about this bit for a while. We've gotten used to insane extremism from radical Islam, but this idea from the Vatican is even more disturbing to me.
