MSNBC has cancelled the show of Mehdi Hasan after learning of his very bigoted remarks from years ago.

In 2009, Hasan compared non-Muslims to "animals" and linked homosexuals to "pedophiles" and "sexual deviants."

In 2019 he apologized for the hateful remarks. But clearly an apology is not enough.

Good to see MSNBC cancel his show but he should be completely banned from the network, which he is not. He will still appear as a guest and analyst.

I'm dubious. He has written about this several times over the years, on prominent outlets.

Why it is that an apology is clearly not enough eludes me, though it's not something I'm inclined to debate.

Your source is Faux News. That is all I need to know.

Now, for a more reasoned take on the actual reasons

"MSNBC has canceled Mehdi Hasan’s Sunday night opinion show as part of a broader shakeup across the network’s lineup of weekend programming.

Hasan, who will remain with the network as an on-camera analyst and fill-in host, informed his staff of the decision on Thursday morning, Semafor first reported.

The network plans to fill Hasan’s Sunday night slot with a second hour of a show hosted by Ayman Mohyeldin, whose total broadcast time on MSNBC will be expanding to four hours on both Saturday and Sundays.

The network is also launching an ensemble program titled “The Weekend” airing Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8-10 a.m. and hosted by MSNBC staples Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Michael Steele. It will premiere Jan. 13.

Hasan was one of MSNBC’s most outspoken liberal pundits and was hired by the network in 2021 to host a show Sunday evenings.

In a note to staff Thursday, MSNBC President Rashida Jones said the changes were made "to better position ourselves as we head into the presidential election."

Hercules56, as long as you rely on outlets such as Faux News, and Newsmax to get your information, you are always going to be lied to‎.

It would seem appropriate to sack him for comments made at work, but old comments that he recanted? A fanatic who has reformed seems an excellent choice as a commentator.

I have very a quick take wìthout checking the link, the guy was indoctrinated from birth, and he was a victim.
If he has escaped, it is a positive character development.

And if the cancellation of his show was due to the past comments, they wouldn't have kept him on as a contributor.

His recantation, which happened many years ago, multiple times, impresses me as being as being as sincere as it gets. He also impresses me as an excellent commentator.

strange how the Free Speech Warriors didn't come running to his defense. I wonder white that is.

It seems Hasan wasn't fired, but MSNBC canceled his show for financial reasons. He'll probably get a new one in a few months. I'm sure Hercules will be by any minute now to apologize for the error and walk back his statement.

And that will show the hypocrisy of Cancel Culture. Its mainly for silencing Conservatives, even when Progressives are just as guilty.

which of your fellow conservatives are you talking about? How many actually apologized for their statements? Did FOX News tell you who you're mad about today yet?

Sounds to me like the connection between the 2009 remarks and the cancellation of the show is pretty tenuous and basically amounts to post-hoc logic. It seems more likely that the issues were more 2023-related; either his show wasn't drawing the viewers or his anti-Israel comments were causing friction.

isn't a better hyporcisy spending years decrying it and then celebrating it or saying it didn't go far enough when it happens to someone you don't like?

like, i don't care about this anymore than i cared that gina carano lost her star wars job. matter of fact, i'm glad he got his show cancelled, it's probably just some other boring news show.

I agree, but what does that have to do with Mehdi Hasan?
Do you have evidence that he is a bigot today or in the past few years?

Hard to believe someone just walks away from the extreme bigotry he espoused a few years ago. He is also known as MSNBC's harshest critic.
