Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (part 3)

Constitutional reverence has nothing to do with it. It's about seeing yourself as a total bad ass.

The constitional reverence part is mostly a smokescreen. The same people would, for the most part, be perfectly happy for the 2nd Amendment to be re-written as: The right to keep and bear arms shall be reserved for white republican's (and libertarians too), while everyone else can get ******.

If this warrants a separate thread, Mods, do that thing you do.

How should we replace the 2A? What would make good language for an amendment?

My top o' the head proposal:

"To better protect public safety, the right to keep and bear arms shall be subject to Congressional regulation."

They haven't found him in two days. I'm guessing he's dead somewhere, right?

That's still where my money is at, especially after the "everything short of a suicide" note.

Certainty? No, obviously still keep looking and everyone stay safe for now, but that's still what I'm leaning toward.

I dunno. Whatever legal language every other single developed nation has.

This is a problem that literally everyone else has figured out.

Reports that Card's Girlfriend frequented the sites of the shootings.
Question is what it an innocent visit for recreation,or was she casing the joints?
If the latter, the lady is in deep kimchee, as in Accomplice to Mass Murder" kimchee.
Though the idea that Card might have had a Harley Quinn is bizarre.

Again I believe public mass murder has become a runaway social trend now due to mass media coverage of these events since the 90s. More and more narcissistic losers or the mentally ill are resorting to these acts. Frequency used to be pretty low and steady worldwide since records were kept.

It's unstoppable.

If this guy just went nutso and snapped then his motivations had nothing to do with the amount of press coverage he'd receive.

Funny how every other country has stopped it.

To quote the Onion "'No Way to Prevent This' Says Only Country Where This Happens Repeatedly."

We have nothing left. Nothing is going to change, not in the next 20 years anyways. Even if through some miracle sensible laws were passed, the SCOTUS would nullify them.

And too many assualt rifles are already floating around.
ANyway, the problem is the argument has been dominated by both's sides extremes....those who want NO restrictions on firearms, and those who want a de facto total banon Privately oened firearms.

As I said you (the USA as a whole) believe the many, many deaths are a price worth paying because of a sentence or two wrote down over 200 years ago. That's to the rest of the world, insane.

Actually, it's the fault of your King George III! If the limey bastard hadn't charged so much for tea we'd be singing "God Save the King," we'd have strict gun laws, and wouldn't be in this bloody mess!

And this is why I think the mass shootings are so much worse in recent years. There were very few semi-auto rifles lying around peoples homes until 20-25 years ago. And not really that many semi-auto pistols until the CCW movement got going. How many people are you going to kill with a bolt-action deer rifle, or double barrel shotgun or even an 870? Those made up the vast majority of guns in private possession until relatively recently.

And yeah I know there some Garands and 1911's and M1A's out there. I'm reminiscing as to what I saw on the gun ranges in the 1980's and early 1990's.

Try to think from an American perspective: suppose we did completely outlaw guns, what would happen? Our untreated mentally ill would use knives on their rampages, which would result in injured victims but fewer fatalities; those victims would then face crushing medical debt and go bankrupt. So really it's kinder to have lots of guns available.

Ridiculous!

I have carefully followed the American gun debate, and it is my considered opinion that mass-murderers will switch from guns to swimming-pools, if guns become unavailable.

:P

Severa news sources reporting that Card has been found dead, a suicide. Nothing official yet.

I am a reenactor ,and have serveral replica 19th century firearrms, and therefor have some familairty with the gun market.
if I had the money, in about 48 hours I could have just about any gun I want. And I live in California a state with strict gun laws.

Body was found in a wooded area near Lisbon, a small town about 2-3 miles from the scene of the shootings, gunshot wound to the head.
