Tory MP investigated over payments for chairing group that lobbied PM
Inquiry will centre on how Bim Afolami declared his fees from WPI Strategy with the register of MPs’ interests

Referenced in the tweet I quoted

Another 3 potential by-elections on top of the almost certain one for Bone.

Councils pursuing a four-day working week are not providing value for taxpayers and should "cease immediately", the government has said.

The first local authority to trial the pattern was South Cambridgeshire District Council, which said it helped to improve recruitment and retention.

But the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities said the scheme should not be adopted elsewhere.

According to Politics Live

'NEW: Boris Johnson and Dominic Cummings sent “disgusting and misogynistic” WhatsApp messages that will be released by the Covid inquiry next week

Osborne: “If you didn’t think very highly of that period of gov, you’re gonna feel even less highly next week” '

Now the unionists have drifted from the Tories over the NI-rUK border I think the Conservative and Unionist party needs a rebranding to reflect the current party.

Conservative, Cokeheads, Rapists and Sleezeballs party would work.

It will appeal to people liking honesty and their current supporters won't care.

The government is to diverge from the European Union’s standards for monitoring water quality, it can be revealed.
While in the EU, England was under the water framework directive (WFD) which meant a national chemical and ecological survey of rivers was conducted annually. After Brexit, the WFD was transposed into English law but the government removed the requirement to conduct annual tests.

The government has said it does not intend to deliver a complete update until 2025, the latest permissible under the new WFD.

The Guardian can reveal that the government will be using its own, as yet undisclosed, methodology to assess river health.

The final quote really sums up the absurdity of the whole thing:
"On one hand Government tells us to innovate to cut costs and provide higher quality services; on the other they tell us not to innovate to deliver services," she added.

Most of us are old enough to remember the Major government Tory sleaze scandals.

I think this rerun is proving the adage of history repeating itself as farce.

There has been sleaze when Labour have been in power as well. MPs have legalised corruption for themselves, by allowing all sorts of perks and benefits and payments to be considered acceptable. It is also very hard to hold an MP to account.

It is hardly surprising that it is a job that attracts corrupt, even evil people.

When MPs are banned from having second jobs, they cannot make extra money by being consultants to industry or any other campaign group, they cannot employ family or friends as assistants, they are provided with accommodation in London and offices in their constituency that they moves to the next MP who gets elected, they are not given subsidies to buy or rent or run their own places, the restaurants and bars in Parliament are not subsidised and the expenses they can claim have to be directly related to their work, then we will see a fall in the level of corruption.

Crispin Blunt has revealed that it's him.

The odd thought which occurred to me is his voters are probably of a generation more willing to disbelieve the rape allegation but actually more disapproving of the drugs allegation.

Either way it's moot for the election if he's not standing.

This does feel so much like the 'Tory sleaze' era in the run up to the '97 election. But can Labour manage to resist punching itself in the cock before we get there? Never underestimate their talent to find a way to miss a sitting duck.

This cannot be over-stated.

Hence my oft-stated view that MPs need to be subject to the same T&Cs as other public sector employees, such as nurses.

Good grief some people in the Labour party really hate the idea of winning. What on earth is the point of demahding Keir Starmer call for a ceasefire in Gaza? What exactly would that achieve except to allow certain media outlets to claim it is evidence that Labour is antisemitic. Call for respect of international law and allowing aid to reach the ordinary people, and even that is likely to be completely ignored.
