Luton Airport Car Park Fire

Did you already forget that Fire Chief Andrew Hopkinson has since been quoted on several occasions ruling out an 'EV fire' ('at this stage')? Having a potty-mouthed temper tantrum is churlish and inappropriate.

The mature and level-headed observer will understand that the definitive cause of the fire will not be available for a few weeks. Whilst from the CCTV it looks as though the fire started from a particular identifiable vehicle, it is quite possible that the fire emanated from the vehicle the other side of it, the view of which is blocked by the Range Rover.

Looks like you had a 1920's thesaurus for breakfast.

Another irony meter bites the dust.

Having had the final sliver of doubt snatched away regarding the car which caught fire being a diesel (and not a hybrid diesel), it seems the desperation to keep the merry-go-round spinning is so great that we are now asked consider whether the car which caught fire was the car which caught fire.

It's sad to see.

Vixen, if someone says on Monday 'we are pretty sure it's X' and then says on Thursday 'it is definitely X' do you think they're still hedging their bets that it's X?

The Fire Brigade has not said 'it was definitely X'.

Full Fact, which is an organisation aimed at seeking out disinformation, understandably wants to counter the anti-green brigade who are keen to hang onto fossil fuel powered vehicles has said in its OPINION, 'It was not an EV nor a hybrid but a common or garden diesel car'.

As diesel fuel does not look like an explosion - it is slow to combust - then the fault IMV is almost certainly an electrical one of some kind, and of course ICE cars suffer plenty of these (as per the car in Cork).

So the claim by you and others that the cause of the fire has been confirmed is either a straightforward lie or an inability to understand the Beds Fore Officer's actual statement.

Except he has since spoken to full fact. After the point where he hedged his bets.

I ruled out an EV fire based on the video, of the fire, it's not possible for that to be a Lithium fire, too cold and not the right behavior for a Lithium fire. Looks like a Diesel Fuel fire.

I see you have swerved away from GB News.

" Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer at Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, previously told the media: “We have no intelligence at this stage to suggest that this was anything other than an accidental fire that started in one of the vehicles that had not long arrived at the airport. It was not an EV. This was a diesel powered vehicle.”

But nobody was claiming it wasn't accidental or that it was 'an EV'. The consensus seems to be it was a hybrid battery fire from its appearance in the CCTV.

Hybrids can be diesel so Hopkinson has not ruled it out as you claim.

He has chosen his words carefully.
Bollocks. he Luton fire was a no-hybrid, diesel, Range Rover. Please stop with the silly insinuations regarding the purported dangers of battery vehicles.

You have a reading comprehension failure.

The Full Fact report very clearly says the fire brigade confirmed to them that the car was a diesel and not a hybrid, and then goes on to describe the statement you're talking about as a thing previously said to the press.

Full Fact is not the press.

It really could not be clearer that Full Fact are not restating the original press statement, they are saying the information was confirmed to them.

And it absolutely does not matter whether the cause of the fire was electrical. It very likely was. The point of contention, as you know perfectly well, is whether it was a fire caused by an EV/hybrid lithium battery. Answer: No, it was not. Confirmed unambiguously by Full Fact who sought that specific information from the fire brigade.

We all know that the initial reporting is more reliable than whatever comes later.

Vixen may be surprised to hear that modern diesel engines contain electrical components, just as other kinds of internal combustion engines contain electrical components. (She may also be surprised to hear that diesel engines are a particular kind of ICE.)

So the claim by you and others that the cause of the fire has been confirmed is either a straightforward lie or an inability to understand the Beds Fore Officer's actual statement.

Although straightforward lies fall within Vixen's domains of expertise, her ability to identify who is telling a straightforward lie has been insufficiently reliable for her opinion to be accepted as authoritative.

Once again, it appears you have failed to read and understand the OP of this thread, which is strange since you're the person who posted it. In that post, it already says the police confirmed that the vehicle was a diesel and not an EV, but your point, as much as you had one, in starting the thread was that this was not quelling the spreading of conspiracy theories that it was an EV and that the fact was being hushed up.

To then say later, as you did, the "nobody was claiming... that it was an EV" is complete nonsense, since that was the whole basis for this thread; and then you attempt to duck responsibility for your own posts by referring to the statements by the Fire Chief which you yourself, in other posts, had been attempting to cast doubt on. Even allowing you to switch to believing those statements, it doesn't negate that fact that it was being claimed that an EV was responsible for the fire.

Luton Airport Car Park No.2 was destroyed a few days ago when a Range Rover suddenly caught fire as it was driving in. Miraculously the driver managed to escape despite the rapid spread of the fire across the floors and ceiling up to the next level. Thankfully only five people were injured, mostly with smoke inhalation.

Whilst the police confirm the vehicle in question was a diesel car, there has been much speculation and arguing on social media that the car ‘must have been an EV or Hybrid’ as ‘only a lithium battery would explode like that’.

Someone else has identified the car from its number plates as being a diesel 2014 Land Rover sports model. The issue is that people do not believe that diesel is particularly combustible. Plus the flames seem to spread out from underneath the passenger side ‘indicating an EV battery issue’.
Some seem to believe that police are playing down the EV angle because they do not want to ruin the EV-car market.

For example:

“I can remember car parks exploding and bursting into flames long before electric vehicles were invented…NOT #LutonAirport” https://x.com/Iromg/status/1712093115148882169?s=20

Just to be clear, X = diesel vehicle.

That's a pretty damned unambiguous case of "the Fire Brigade" saying "it was X".

But it left just enough wiggle room to insinuate it could hypothetcally have been a diesel hybrid. Which is the speck of doubt Full Fact quashed with their quite brilliant idea of simply asking the fire brigade. It was not a hybrid.

The official report into the fire has not been published yet so you cannot possibly claim to know what caused it.

The cause of the Cork car park fire took ten weeks to establish.
