According to some "shocked critics," since Yahweh translates literally as "I AM," then for AOL to use "I AM" in their AIM marketing campaign is blasphemy.

This is a glimpse of the crazy laws to be imposed in our coming theocracy.

Millar wonders if any of AOL's marketing and planning directors ever went to Christian Sunday school or attended Jewish services.

He points out to AOL executives that "I AM" is the English translation of YaHWeH, the self-proclaimed name of God.
One question, of all you ouit there in the forum with the stated experience of Sunday school or Jewish services, who of you knew from that experience that Yahweh = "I AM"?

Please tell me this is a hoax. Surely nobody is that stupid or crazy?

It is fundamentalists we are talking abbot. If harry potter can be a satanist plot, and bar-codes are a sign of the "end times", then why not?

I suppose the guy in the article never uses the English phrase "I am" or it's contraction "I'm" in conversation or writing, then, as it would be blasphemy.

"Are you hungry?"
"This individual is!"

"I'm Martha Jones."
"Blasphemy!"
"Who are you?!"
"This person is Ian Millar."
"Really? Well, this person is phoning the loony bin."

yeah, and what about that blasphemous Descartes!

"I think, therefore God!" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

I was kicked out of Sunday school at age 3.

Legend has it that Dorothy Parker was kicked out of Catholic school for likening the Immaculate Conception to spontaneous combustion.

I do. God as Burning Bush said it to Moses. "I am that I am." We learned it in Sunday School.

I have never, however, heard anyone of even that ilk suggest that humans could no longer use the phrase. This surprises me, as the ones I knew were the authors of much stupidity. I'm surprised they missed this one.

You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think.

I think my favorite is when a friend held the door for her, saying "age before beauty" and she replied, just like that, "pearls before swine"!

It would take me months to think of a retort that clever.

I'm more of the Marge Simpson retort. "Why do I always think of the perfect thing to say when it's too late? 'Shut up, Becky!' Oh, that would have been sweet!"

TragicMonkey: Are you Canadian and/or an equestrian? Just wondered- using the name Ian Millar - Captain Canada - famous show jumper... or was that just a "made up" name?

I deny Canada and horses. Ian Millar is the name of the fool in the article.
