Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

I'm just surprised Musk hasn't made following his account automatic, compulsory, and unstoppable. And once he thinks of that I'm sure his remarks will appear larger, flashing, moving, and always on top. After all, the entire point of the app is to be a personal vanity project for the money clown, isn't it?

He should bring back marquee text! People love that!!!!!!

People trying to monetize their accounts are getting their first payments….and they are feeling very fragile right now.

Twitter, or whatever the hell Muck is callling it, will go belly up withink a couple of years at the most.probably quicker.

I suspect Elon is going to get tired of his toy and try to squirm out of the debt he owes for it. Some other big tech company will pick it up for pennies on the dollar and will work to salvage it using their resources to prop it up while it recovers. I suspect Google, who may still want social media since Google+ flopped.

PC Mag reporting X will begin to have subscription 'blue tick' users verify their identity by having them submit a selfie alongside a government issued ID. The process requires users to consent to X storing their information for 30 days and sharing it with AU10TIX, an identity verification company based in Israel.

Interesting company name. I suppose they use a proprietary custom variation of the well established ID10T identity verification process.

Anyone who followed closely along back in the heyday of MMORPGs knows that throwing a number or two around means almost nothing.

"Users" is a nebulous term. A single person can log in from different devices or any number of other ways to make one individual count as multiple "users."

Monthly/weekly "uniques" is much more telling figure. But the real analyses revolve around comparing various metrics to gauge retention/engagement/etc.

well if you ask me, the whole thing is a bit of a smoke and mirrors game anyway. these giant social media companies have done enough damage to the world. i want more independent media on the web so i hope this is just the beginning of a domino effect and the social media brain worms get all these ********

Linda Yaccarino trying to clean up Musk's mess says they're "improving" the block feature.

I'll be able to troll Deepak Chopra again. He blocked me a decade or so ago. I doubt he remembers me.

The mute feature is not going away. He won’t see your trolling.

In fact, unless you bought the blue tick, he probably won’t see your tweexes even without muting you. Nor will anybody else.

Isn't it kind of a binary thing? Block or no block? Don't see how that could much be "improved".

Their idea of "improvement" would be to take away the ability to block ads.

This would "improve" things for the premium users wanting to earn ad revenue.

They are decades behind. Subscription services are too commital. People will, however, pay 2-3x as much as the subscription if they can have an a-la carte smattering of some of the services that a subscription provides through microtransactions.

So they can offer being able to block and being unblockable as individual services.

To resolve which overrides which, users have to select how much they want to pay to block/be unblockable and whoever paid more wins.

Since Musk took ove it seems he disabled location visibility on posts, meaning Russian or any other malicious foreign users could use it to spread disinformation with unsuspecting users unaware of origin of posts.

Another change
When you tweet a link to a news article, the headline will no longer be shown, only the image.
Elon says it will 'improve the aesthetics"

It's the exact type of stuff you would expect someone without current knowledge to be coming up with, he's getting them to try ideas that have already failed to deliver for advertisers.

Musk promised to shake things up and is repeatedly demonstrating that Twitter made the decisions they did for fairly mundane business reasons, not because they were captured by the woke cabal.

Threads is getting a web interface, finally.

threads.net

Is it still a ghost town? Once they rolled out the "follower only" feed it showed me that only a handful out of the 100+ accounts were actually posting there. Digital tumbleweeds blowing down the street

They totally botched the opportunity, but they're lucky that musk is such a moron that he will likely give them another bite at the apple before too long.

There's plenty of activity on Threads. Like any other social media, you need to find the accounts that you enjoy following.
