Cont: The Biden Presidency (3)

I wouldn't go that far. I felt like Obama made a huge mistake that Biden and the Democrats keep making. They keep surrendering rural America to the Republicans.

If I was President, I would be on a constant road tour through America. But you have to be the kind of politician who can do that. I think Clinton and Obama were capable of it. Biden at his age today? Not so sure. Not that he wouldn't be physically capable but he's an old man and will look like an old man. It might not be appealing.

Biden's a bit too low energy now but he's had moments where he's called out Republican congressmen for taking credit for things he should be given credit for.

I wish he'd hammer into the media every weekend or so.

I ran across something a couple of days ago that I figured the Bidenistas would post here for me, but I don't see it here, so: Apparently he restored the pre-Reagan status of a Federal "rule" about how to pay construction workers on Federal projects. The policy had been a nationwide standard, then it was changed to adjust down to local "going" rates in low-paying areas (typically the areas with more immigrants doing this kind of work), and Biden has put it back to a nationwide standard. It only directly affects workers on Federal projects, but will probably have some indirect effect on other workers' pay in the same job markets. So, that was nifty.

That is the Davis Bacon Act. It requires that anyone working on a Federally funded project be paid the prevailing wage.

Probably not much point of going on nationwide tour is you don't have anything exciting to offer the public. Maybe if a Dem had some hypothetical slate of policies they thought would materially benefit Americans (new deal, great society, etc) that's something they could go on a full PR blitz about, but they don't. Dems can be totally uninspiring just as easily from their offices in DC as they can in the town square of rural America.

Democrats are saving democracy. And nobody notices or cares.

I wouldn't get too carried away. The pre-Trump status quo that Democrats hope to restore is hardly a shining example of Democracy. Let's not forget that the 100% accurate perception that our government is totally captured by special interests through corrupt means played a huge role in someone like Trump gaining popularity.

Dude, he's not mentally capable of it anymore. Hell, they barely let him out of the basement in 2020 when he was supposed to be campaigning full time. He hasn't gotten better. If the Democrats let him run in 2024, it's going to be a god damn train wreck of a campaign.

It's their job, and it's a dirty one.

we also ignore garbage disposal and sweer workers.

If garbage disposal and sewer workers were obviously on the take from interested private parties (say private landfill or septic tank companies), it would be reasonable to despise them too.

Nonsense. You really have to stop watching FOX and Friends.

Depends on who they are. I absolutely feel that Clinton and Obama were fully capable to do that. But I don’t think Biden has ever had that quick rapier wit and temperament to do that. I think Pete Buttigeig could do it. John Tester from Montana probably could. I'm sure others could as well.

Their alternatives right now are a purveyor of Republican conspiracy theories with a famous long-dead Democrat's last name and, worse yet, their real enemy: a progressive. :jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp Anything is better as far as they're concerned. Biden lets the others in the power class outside the Presidency keep their seats in the power class.

The question of how best to classify the American government in terms of how it actually works instead of just by what it calls itself has been addressed in several studies by political scientists & economists. They found that the way it actually works is as an oligarchy: the rich get what they want, the non-rich don't, and any other outcome or potential causative factor only manages to occasionally appear at a level no more than chance.

I don't watch Fox. And you need to start watching Biden himself. He's not up to the task, and you're delusional if you think he is.

I have been. But his problem isn't that he's turned into some demented and incapable old man. I don’t think he ever had that ability.

Sure, he never had Clinton's charisma. But he used to be able to talk. I mean, he would constantly lie, but those lies would just roll off the cuff without a struggle. Now he struggles to even read a teleprompter correctly. He was never impressive, but now he's feeble.

I'm not sure I agree to the same extent as you're describing it, but the immediate reaction to Biden speaking is "this guy is really old" and he definitely has lost a few steps compared to the plentiful footage of him speaking in his earlier career.

Republicans could probably score a lot of points on this if it weren't for the fact that their guy is also well over the hill.

I guess the advanced age and dodgy mental and physical health of both Trump and Biden adds quite a bit of wildcard potential to the coming race. isn't it great that the fate of our nation rests on two old geezers continuing to outperform teh actuarial tables?

This is pure projection. The Republican modus operandi. Yeah, we know that we might be shameless liars, but occasionally you guys sometimes say something is false so we will just accuse you of lying.
