Ha, ha, what a card that McConnell is. Will the grave have dedicated space for dancing, or will it just be casual wherever?

A stroke was my immediate reaction too. An elderly person abruptly losing their ability to speak is one of the things they put in every stroke information pamphlet I've ever seen. It's literally the "S" in FAST.

As far as I can tell nobody rushed him off to the hospital, which considering it's Mitch, is fine with me. If I saw this happen to a stranger on the street I'd be calling 911.

It's super cool how common elder abuse of geriatric lawmakers is such a common trope in our political system. Just a bunch of geriatric ghouls falling to pieces on live TV, obviously unfit for the task at hand, being tended to by a handful of orbiters whose meal ticket depends on keeping these people in office. Neato.

In the waning days of the USSR, American pundits would rightly point out what a dire sign it was that all the Soviet leadership were geriatrics.

I couldn't avoid bits of that oft-shown clip on TV, but I never saw or heard the whole thing. It's not just news, it's sensationalism and exploitation. Same with clips of jumpers on 9/11. I know it happened, but I don't want those images in my head.

For me the most bizarre part was, the staffers got McConnell off to the side and then one of them completed reading his statement. As though nothing had happened. :eye-poppi

Looked to me like he had a moment of introspection, became stunned to realize it was too late to break the chain of events he has unleashed.
 
I don't like anything about the man or his body of work, but I hope he is OK and considers a quiet retirement to recuperate.

I think that would be a very appropriate monument to Moscow Mitch.

McConnell has been extremely destructive to the U.S., hyping up the partisanship under Obama. Then he stood by as Stubby McBonespurs got elected (thanks in part to Russian interference) and did nothing to really challenge his worst excesses. (His votes on impeachment being the crown jewel in that.)

Seeing the individual that he propped up attack him would be symbolic of the republican party as it stands today.
 
A doctor on CNN said it's likely this has happened before which is why he wasn't taken immediately to the hospital for tests which would be the normal procedure. Rather than a TIA, he could be having absence seizures. It would explain the calm and delayed reaction of those around him. They only reacted when the seizure lasted so long and it became obvious something was wrong as absence seizures usually last as little as 10 seconds.

A simple absence seizure causes a vacant stare, which may be mistaken for a brief lapse in attention. The seizure lasts about 10 seconds, though it may last as long as 30 seconds. There's no confusion, headache or drowsiness after the seizure.

I thought there was some policy about doctors not remote-diagnosing issues? Not on CNN, obviously. There's another one doing it also. Them ladym whom endsm everym wordm withm anm "m".

I would have called it a petit mal seizure. I wonder if an absence seizure is a new name for it or something to make it not sound so bad, those foreign language names and all. :p

I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense with what we saw.

Yes, an absence seizure and a petit mal seizure are the same thing. My sister was a nurse for 30 years and she said she saw this kind of seizure many times. She watched the video and said it looked like the many petit mal seizures she saw.

My brother has epilepsy and is known to have several of those in a day when he screws up his medication. Every seizure causes more brain damage.

I do not believe that is true.

But increasing numbers of petit mal seizures could be caused by some increasing brain damage of another source.
