Criminal Charges Against Trump / Trump Indicted / Hush Money Part II

Yes, you're just guessing as to why charges haven't been brought yet. Knowing some of the evidence against Trump does not mean you know WHY it's taking so long or what's going on behind the scenes. I understand you're impatient for Trump to be charged...so am I. But the investigators know more than we do. It's very possible that they're working with recalcitrant witnesses and securing deals before moving to indict. If they didn't have good reasons to NOT indict YET, they would have. I sincerely believe Trump will be indicted in both the documents case and the Georgia case.

And you also have the sedition investigation. Could be a Trifecta..Quadfecta if you incluse the Stormy case.

This (ex)president worship in the USA is very puzzling to me. Why does the job that a person carried out for 8, or 4, years make that person so special that they are effectively above the law that they were employed to uphold? I cannot see any elected temporary leader of any other democracy who engages in criminal activity being given such deference.

I wonder how many of these people making these comments have law degrees or passed the Bar.
My sister, who is a practicing attorney way back in 2021 predicted it would take a couple of years before indictments came down. You really want your act totally together if you try to take down a ex Potus.

Hey, I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

That is it. When you try to take down a ex President, you have better have every i dotted and t crossed in your legal proceedings.
Or else what*? Curious minds want to know.

*Helping him get reelected by his MAGA cult notwithstanding. I think that cult has shrunk in size enough now to be less of a threat even if a few more of them will be inspired to take up arms if they believe the Deep State imprisoned their leader.

Trump is a con-artist. It's about getting people to believe indicting an ex-POTUS is purely political, making them blind to all the obvious evidence he not only committed outright crimes, but obvious evidence he's also as corrupt as the proverbial hell.

I keep seeing news reports on more and more of his 'appointees' in various government jobs where they made millions.

Federal inquiry details abuses of power by Trump's CEO over Voice of America
Pack punished executives who objected to the legality of his plans, interfered in the journalistic independence of the newsrooms under his agency, and personally signed a no-bid contract with a private law firm to investigate those employees he saw as opposed to former President Donald Trump. The law firm's fees reached the seven figures for work typically done by attorneys who are federal employees.

A perennial head-scratcher for me. These guys get away with outright crimes, even considering their status as head of state. It really is tantamount to putting up a help wanted sign the reads, "Now hiring! Not educated? No problem! A convicted criminal? No problem! A shady conman under multiple investigations and indictment? No problem! Are you 35-105 years old and and a citizen? If we like you, you're our man!"

What a gig this has proved to be for a grifter!

I'm not being too unserious when I say that in Drumpf's case, all he has to do is let more evidence trickle out, keep committing more crimes, and the investigators will still be trying to wrap it all up with a bow long after the hemberders and KFC will have done their job.

While I 100% believe Trump is guilty of sedition, even perhaps seditious conspiracy, I'm no so sure that one will ever go to court.

We don't 'worship'/idolize our ex-presidents as a rule. But Trump is an exception because MAGA is a cult of personality. His followers don't look at him as a politician they like, but as more of a hero-saviour figure.

Ty Cobb, Trump's former high-powered attorney, says that Trump is "dead" and that his only option is to cut a deal.

May Cobb's words be prophetic:

Donald Trump’s former attorney has boldly predicted that the former president is going to jail as the criminal investigation into the trove of classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago continues to heat up.

Ty Cobb, who worked as a White House attorney for the Trump administration from July 2017 to May 2018, told CNN that he believes the evidence against Mr Trump will lead to a conviction and prison time.

“I wouldn’t necessarily expand the case to try to prove the Espionage Act piece of it because there is so much evidence of guilty knowledge on the espionage piece that all they really have to do is show that Trump moved these documents at various times when DOJ was either demanding them or actually present, that he filed falsely with the Justice Department, had his lawyers file falsely with the Justice Department and affidavit to the effect that none existed, which was shattered by the documents they discovered after the search and the many other misrepresentations that he and others have made on his behalf with regard to his possession of classified documents,” he said.

“Yes, I do think he will go to jail on it.”

If what you were saying were true, then the Tricky Dicky, Ray Gun and Shrub I administrations would be blinking in their first sight of the light of day in decades right about now. Every man jack among them.
Pretty sure they only broke international law, which America has always routinely snubbed. Lord Doltemort broke federal law.

Is it worth pointing out that Republican Presidents are treated very differently than Democratic Party Presidents in practice? It's really not President worship in the first place. As Stacys said, the cult of personality part is important when it comes to explaining Trump worship. Beyond that, though, too much of the Republican Party can easily be said to be little different from a crime syndicate and harnessing the conservative valuing of loyalty, cynical focus on power, and shared delusion lets them get away with absurdly much.

Is it though?

A Democrat DOJ or AG poses no deterrent for Republicans to crime, because they know they can delay consequences indefinitely whilst Fundraising on the fact that they are being investigated.

I hope Smith tears Trump such a big one that he will regret ever getting into politics.

The penalty should include never discussing the crime or case with anyone, nor commenting on the judge or jury, on penalty of contempt. Trump can't control his yap these days, so he will just put himself in the slammer longer. Where he will keep yapping, just making it worse.
